@SOCHICSAMMIE: Hi there! A good starting point for me was to get acquainted with the options in my area via user review sites like the Weddingbee Vendor Review, WeddingWire, and Project Wedding. Once I made a preliminary list of potential vendors, I would visit their websites to get a feel for their style (especially important with a photographer) and also scope out pricing (if it was publicly available; I had to e-mail a fair number to get an estimate).
