.... Oh, and I am working on a budget. I assume going to a salon instead of having a team come to us would be cheaper. Any thoughts?
I went to the Darrin Jon Studio in Santa Barbara for my hair and makeup. And my girls all got their hair done too. They were way more affordable than any of the places that I looked at that comes to you. I was very happy with them. Hope this helps!
Darin Jon is okay- but you have to get a good stylist. Some people are great and others are just so-so. I know a lot of people love Melissa.
Walter Claudio is other Aveda salon in town, and it's my personal favorite. A lot of really talented people, and the salon is really gorgeous inside. It's only a block or two from Paseo Nuevo.
Head West at 21 W Victoria St # C, Santa Barbara, CA (805) 963-3626 Ask for Stancy. She is FABULOUS! Very good at listening to what you want and styling accordingly. She can do curly, straight, updoes, down, etc. She's super fun and very nice. I would call and see what she can do for you. It's a small, independent old victorian style house with cute courtyard that would be great to hang out at.
I would also suggest hiring a seperate make up artist to come to the salon, since salon's do hair well, but not necessarily make up.
Walter Claudio is sort of the SB standby for good (but somewhat pricy) salon service, but you can't go wrong there and I know they do makeup too. Depends on whether you want a more intimate setting, or a more bustling salon experience.
Oh! And you simply MUST grab a coffee or tea at The French Press. It's a block or two up from Paseo Nuevo at Figuero and State and the best coffee in town.
Sorry, local girl :) Enjoy SB! Let me know if you have other questions or need other references locally.
I highly recommend Mishay Salon. Andrea is the best! She is my normal stylist and I brought my bridal party, mother & MIL all in for hair the day of the wedding. Andrea & two others (sorry - at a loss for names!) split the group up and went to work. Everyone loved their do! And mine stayed perfect all day & night which was amazing! They'll also come to you if you prefer not to go to the salon.
I used Blue 19 Salon and they were amazing. I had 8 people getting their hair done including myself and they were fast and very accomodating. We brought in Champagne and OJ and they let us bring in food too.
It is on Ortega right across the street from the Macy's in Paseo Nuevo.
@justelope: Isn't Fresh Press delicious!
I have a couple of friends that get their hair done at Mishay and rave about the salon (one of them even sees Andrea like PP mentioned).
Peggy Jo at Head West is a sweetie!
I second the reccommendation for 19 Blue. I'm a local, and they always take good care of me and most of my friends go there too!

Hi - I am looking for a hair salon in Santa Barbara where my bridesmaids and I can get our hair and make up done on the big day. We're staying at a hotel on State Street so something close to Paseo Nuevo would be great. I've never had my hair done in Santa Barbara so I don't know where to start looking!
Thanks!
