I think it would be awesome to use Iacocca Hall at the Lehigh University Mountaintop campus. (the glass-enclosed top floor in this picture) I have attended functions there, but never a wedding. It would have beautiful views in the late fall with the leaves changing colors! The campus would be great for pictures too.

@texsylvanian: Thank you for the idea. I will look into that this afternoon.
Penn's Peak in Jim Thorpe does weddings, too. The Stroudsmoor is closer to Clarks Summit and would have been my dream venue if it weren't too expensive and too far from where I live now. I don't know if you'll be able to get in this year. My favorite venue (I'm in Central PA now but grew up over that way) is currently booked through Nov 2012!
Good luck!
@Amaryllis: I'm going to try to get in touch with Penn's Peak as well..... great idea. I went to see the Stroudsmoor last summer and I LOVED it. There is an issue with dates, especially at woodgate in the fall. Is Stroudsmoor your favorite venue?
@jen1980: Stroudsmoor is my favorite venue, though not the "favorite" to which I was referring. I have a favorite "local" one, too, and that is the one that is booked through Nov 2012. Stroudsmoor could be booked through 2013 for all I know!
My mom had her wedding at "The Lake House" in Nockamixon (might be just smidge further south, but then again, it's only like 45 min from Allentown where I grew up). It was really gorgeous and they were able to accomodate EVERYTHING. From the rooms for guests (which were super modern and very cool) to the cocktail area (the foyer in the actual hotel) to the reception area (next to the hotel) and then late night smores by their fire pit. It was such a gorgeous location. Let me see if I can find some pictures...

the rooms were through the double doors where those curtains are tied back, and the cocktail hour was inside in the piano room and out on that back deck. Directly behind me (taking the picture) is the lake.

this was the reception area located directly to the left of the previous picture. The floor is great for dancing, and the food was excellent.

this is the lake in the background
It's pretty secluded, also, which is nice b/c you won't have to worry about random people in the area wandering through :-)
@bunnyfoofoo: I love the place, but it's a little far from my home base, which is Clarks Summit. I would like to keep the wedding within 1.5 hr from me.

Sorry, there are no users yet.
I am looking for a place to get married and have a reception in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The wedding date is negotiable, but I would like it to be sometime in 2011. (I know - running out of time)
I would like a venue that is unique.....not looking for a place like Genetti's. I am also fine with anywhere from NY border to Allentown.
I've been searching for months now and I really just want to find a place. I really liked Fern Hall in Clifford, but they could not fit 150 guests inside the venue.
I have looked at: Stonebridge in Uniondale and Fern Hall in Clifford. Places like Hilton, Radisson, Holiday Inn, Fiorelli's, Montdale Country Club, etc. are out. I feel like they are very standard weddings.
I am going to see the Mauch Chunk Museum in Jim Thorpe asap. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
