    Hey, fellow bees!

I'm looking for a wedding venue somewhere near the NW Chicago Suburbs for my 120-150 people wedding.  I'm on a really tight budget (around $8,000) for everything.

I'm really looking to stay away from banquet halls and large hotel chains; my fiancé and I are just not really into the cookie-cutter white-fabric covered chairs and linoleum ceilings.  If there is a great one that you know of, though, I'm always open to suggestions!

My ideal location would be bright, in neutral colors (beiges, creams, light blue/greens, etc.) with lots of honey-colored wood.  Beamed ceilings of any kind are a plus.  A large dance floor is preferable.  It's a September wedding, and my colors are powder blue, nude, and cerulean, so I would love if the venue worked with them.

I'm willing to drive up to 1.5 hours to get there from Wheeling, IL.

    Thanks in advance!

If the barn idea sounds okay, I've looked into Hoosier Grove Barn (Streamwood) and Wagner Farm (Glenview). They're both more finished barns and definitely have lots of honey colored wood and beams! Hoosier Grove has a $24/pp Wedding Package that includes 5 hours of open bar, chairs/tables, and linens, and you can choose your own caterer. Wagner Farm charges $10/pp for the rental and their only caterer is Catered by Design, but it seems like their packages can be individualized to be pretty affordable.

Also, the Irish American Heritage Center in Chicago is on the NW side and they had really affordable (well under $1000 for some of the rooms) room rentals when I looked into them, and I think some of their rooms have ceiling beams. I think the bar packages are a bit pricey, though, if you care about that.

Thanks for the suggestions!  I'm definitely looking into the Irish Heritage Center and the Gorton Community Center.

@yanamya: Try Oakbrook Bath and Tennis Club, that's where my best friend is getting married next year and it looks beautiful! Very cool building, not cookie-cutter, and has neutral colors. They don't have in-house catering, but my friend got an outside caterer for an amzing price.

We are having ours at the Lakeview Room at the Glenview Park Center.  It's got a nice outside area and the room is pretty neutral.  Has a stage which we love cause we are having a band.  I was opposed to the typical hotel banquet too, and although this isn't want I had in mind, there are floor to ceiling windows on the wall facing the patio, a pond, bright, and spacious .  We are having a Friday wedding, so it knocks the price down.  It's also catered by Catered By Design and they have some good packages.  We are going open bar and it's just above 8k for 100 people.  They also have a package that is much cheaper that includes wine, beer, and a signiture cocktail that they serve all night.  Check out the website, but I was not impressed until I actually saw the room in person, which should be getting even better by the fall because it's being painted, carpet being replaced, etc.  Catered By Design also does the Winnetka Community house which has a great outside area and very neutral room.

My friend's mom got married at the Irish American Heritage Center.  It was nice but not your usual banquet hall.

I am also looking at the Heritage Center for a possible reception space (my fiance is Irish, so he's really counting on it!).  Does anyone have detail on pricing? I am waiting on a callback or email from the contact person there.  Thanks & good luck to you all!

I live by Wheeling, and I'm getting married at the Byron Colby Barn in Grayslake. It's about 30 minutes north of Wheeling. It's a barn and it's gorgeous -- Stan, the manager there, rents it our for a little over 2 grand. Here's a picture of it set up for someone's wedding when I went to check it out: Looking for a wedding venue - NW Chicago Suburbs - up to 1.5 hours away : wedding wedding venue chicago northwest suburbs wheeling cheap inexpensive neutral The Barn
