I am starting to research venues in the Southern California area (pretty flexible on location) and ultimately looking for a place that doesn’t require 50% upfront. We are paying for our wedding on our own, so since we’re planning so far out, we’re looking to save up and pay things as we go. With that said, it can be hard to gather thousands of dollars for the deposit alone which is making it hard for us to find a place to secure. We’re looking for a place that has ONE of the following attributes (wishful thinking I know):
In order of what we want most:
– A rustic feel (barnyard? Tree-filled area?)
– By the ocean
Ultimately, my overall budget is between 10K-12.5K. It’s not much but I feel like it’s doable if we do it right. I know a place is out there, just haven’t found it yet. Have searched on most of the major wedding sites, so I’m looking for maybe a less publicized one. Again, I know this is quite a wishlist for a lower budget search but any help would be so appreciated.
<br />Thank you!

Try any of the Wedgewood locations (Ventura, Chino Hills, Temecula, etc). They can totally fit your budget and you can make payments. Good luck!

I checked them out and one really caught my eye but the deposit was still hefty. Perhaps they’ll make an exception? Will have to ask.

Have you looked into Limoneira Ranch? They have a pretty low deposit and are really nice. The wedding site looks out into the orchard and mountains, very pretty and peaceful.

I just got married at Hurst Ranch in West Covina. Only thing is you need to use their caterer. They have several options to choose from. We chose the BBQ menu and it was $24 per person. I think their prices are going up but not by that much. http://www.bashfulbutler.com/hurstranch.php#!hurst-ranch/c7o2

Check out Mesa Verde Country Club in Costa Mesa. It’s not necessarily rustic, but their event room overlooks the golf course and it’s beautiful. My sister got married there and they hosted 40-50 people for dinner for about $6k total.

My SIL got married at the Marion Davies Guest House in Santa Monica. It was amazing, and not too expensive.

katasia: Check out the Point Vicente Lighthouse and interpretive center in Rancho Palos Verdes. By the ocean and my deposit was less than 50% as long as you’re booking more than 6 months out. I think it’s about $5 – 6K to rent the place with the included chairs and tables.

You might want to check out the Martin Johnson House in La Jolla. It’s on a cliff by the ocean and has a rustic feel with beautiful trees.
They do soft holds, so you don’t have to put down any money until someone else requests your date. It’s $2500. The main budget issue is that lighting can be expensive because they do not allow you to hang anything on trees or the building since it’s historical.
