@ScooterBride: FI and I are getting married at Fort William Henry in Lake George and we couldn't be more thrilled about it. The ceremony is held outside in a gazebo overlooking the lake and the cocktail hour and reception are inside their tavern and ballroom. We were able to negotiate a phenomenal price so if you do decide to look into FWH don't let the online prices scare you away. They WILL do their best to work with your budget.
Hi ScooterBride! How many people are you looking for? I have been doing a lot of research and can probably offer some suggestions.
@Miss Budget: 50-75-ish, most likely. I'd appreciate any help! :)
Okay, here are some ideas based on the psycho amount of research I am doing for my own wedding. These all should let you use your own caterer:
-RPI Barn (http://www.rpitechpark.com/parknews.php) - $1400ish rental I believe but then you can do your own catering
-Arkell Museum (http://www.arkellmuseum.org/siterental.html) - a bit to the west but driving a bit gets MUCH cheaper prices. Can be inside museum or tented outside.
-Thatcher Park (http://nysparks.state.ny.us/parks/128/details.aspx) - very affordable option, can rent pavilions, not sure about setting up tents
I'm going to try and think of more. :)
Pruyn House (http://www.pruynhouse.org/facility-rentals) is another nice indoor/outdoor sort of place
I'm not sure what your budget is or if any of these will work!
We are going with the Canfield Casino in Congress Park in Saratoga Springs. You can have the ceremony inside or outside by one of the fountains. You get to choose your outside vendor, they can give you suggestions, but you can pick anyone you like. You are really just paying for the place, like a hall back in the day, and then it's up to you to supply everything else.
Thanks for all the suggestions so far! I'm thinking Pruyn House might be out, though. His brother just got married there, and I'd just feel weird to get married there myself. I'm pretty sure it's out of our budget anyway, which may change significantly soon.
Try the Appel Inn in Altamont. I also liked the Pruyn House but the Appel in has everything they have and more. I am getting married at the Appel Inn in June!

Sorry, there are no users yet.
Most of FH's family lives in the capital area or north, so we're doing the wedding there. He grew up there, but I only lived there about 2 years. I'm not really "up" on what's around. But I'm looking for a simple, flexible venue, and would love some suggestions.
Here's what I'd like:
--Ceremony & reception at the same place, or extremely close together
--Preferably outside, with the option of a tent or indoor area for weather
--At least somewhat flexible as far as food and other vendors are concerned
--Won't break the bank
As far as the flexible part is concerned, I just don't want to be locked in to certain things. I'm not sure I want a huge fancy cake, and I don't want to be charged a fee for not going to their preferred baker for it. I'll go with a preferred caterer, but I don't want to be locked into a $50 meal per person, when I'd really just like afternoon snacks.
Ideally, just choosing a relative's backyard would be great. But I don't believe anyone in the area has any property that would actually work for it.
Suggestions! Please kindly hurl them in my direction. :)
