@future.mrs.v: I'm going today to one in chandler--A Stitch in Time. She was nice enough, and I'll let you know what kind of work she does after the visit.
By the way, I read a lot about alterations inc, and they seem to be on the higher end of the price spectrum, if budget is important to you.
Janet Kirkman - she does amazing work, and her prices are completely resaonable.
Good luck!
@Quietserenity: if you can let me know, that'd be great!
as for price, i'm willing to pay a little more to get good work done, but i also don't want to pay more than what i paid for the dress either, lol. ya know.
that happened to me at david's bridal - i bought an evening/cocktail dress from there for $60 (on sale of course) and had it altered there as well. they charged me $50 for alterations! all i had done was the straps shortened (hmm, i see a trend here, lol). the lady said it was because the straps were unique and needed special attention so she charged me $25/strap! grr. so yeah, for shortened straps, $50 is far too much for me.
@Christie: thanks! i'll definitely check her out! :)
Have you found someone to make your alterations yet?
You mentioned 43rd Ave. What part of the valley are you in? I am in NW Phx. I'm an extremely experienced seamstress and if all you need done is to have the straps altered, I'd be willing to help you. I can certainly provide you with references and samples of my work. I don't do sewing as a business anymore...it took all the fun out of it, so I wouldn't charge you unless there is something really unusual about your dress that required a substantial amount of time or material, which I doubt.
Let me know if I can help.

Sorry, there are no users yet.
i bought a really cute short, white dress sometime back and am looking to wear it for my upcoming bridal shower. i need to get the straps altered though - they're a tad bit too long and the dress hangs a little low. anybody have any suggestions on good tailors/seamstresses in the area? i was reading about alterations inc. on 43rd ave. in phoenix, and they seem to have really good reviews. anybody ever gone there? did you like it? wherever i go to, if they do a good job, i'll probably end up taking my bridemaid dress there for a wedding that i'm in. any suggestions ladies? thanks! :)
