Looking for honest feedback; is dress too fancy for venue?

My ceremony is in a flower garden. My reception is in a barn. I will have many rustic elements; such as long tables, family-style service and details like a birch tree cake stand etc..  I will have some fancy elements like chiavari chairs.  My bridesmaid dresses are knee length and satin. The guys will be in suits, not tuxes.  I am wondering whether my dress is too fancy. Should I have gone with a less formal dress to match the rustic theme and the guys in suits? My bridal shop is having a big sample sale and it is possible I could look at other types of dresses - I am thinking lace without a full skirt.  So I'm just wondering what you guys think - will my dress be too fancy for my wedding? Sorry if you've seen this one before!

Pish posh - your dress is lovely. And my theory is that a bride can never be over-dressed for her wedding!

I love your dress! It is super flattering and totally gorgeous. I don't think it is too fancy or formal at all. It is your wedding- wear what you want!

This is a tough question, but let me start with if you LOVE your dress, just stop worrying about it!  You look gorgeous!

With that said, it is a little formal for a barn reception, but that's just my opinion.

And I kind of feel like maybe you are having second thoughts about the dress (otherwise you wouldn't even consider switching), and if you think you can afford another one, go for it!

I don't think so at all...I got married in a garden/barn too and my dress was a similar style. The only thing that would look out of place in that setting is a big ballgown or tons of beading and lace, imo.

A barn can be very dressed up.. and it sounds like you are going pretty formal since you are having chivari chairs. I got married a barn too with a formal look and my dress had beading all over the bodice.  Your dress is perfect.. don't second guess yourself!

It sounds like your wedding has a juxtaposition of fancy elements in a rustic setting, so your dress is perfect!

It's beautiful!  I love all the criss-cross weaving!

I worried about the same thing with my dress/wedding style.  In the end I decided to heck with it- I liked the dress and so what if it classes up the reception a bit (which I don't think it will TOO dramatically, with mine or with yours).

Love the dress! I agree with all the ladies above, You can never be over dressed for your own wedding.

But if you're not comfortable with that than maybe you could consider getting a separate dress for the reception. One that you feel fits the rustic theme more.

I think the dress will compliment the setting and vice versa! Especially b/c you do have chiavari chairs:)

Ilike it :) If you like it... then wear it.  I think sometimes we get too caught up in, does this all go together.  Seriously, who cares that much. I doubt many people are going to say "oh her dress was sooo not right for this venue."  My mom has reminded me on several occasions, that who cares what anyone else thinks, or what the wedding industry says. If I like it and FI likes it, that's all that matters.

(Don't get me wrong, I get caught up too.)

Your dress is too great to be second guessing yourself.  If it was a big ballgown, pick-up, or had crazy beaded embellishments then maybe, but I think it should work perfectly for your venue.  BTW - I love that I haven't seen a similar dress at a wedding before, but that at the same time it's not an "out there" dress.  Your pictures will be great!

My answer to this question is always no! The bride should always look as fancy as she wants because the occasion calls for it, the venue doesn't matter.

Absolutely not!  I think your dress is perfect!  If it was adorned with hundreds of crystals and rhinestones and all that hoopla, it might not fit, but it's nice and clean looking and the shape of it is perfection.

    Love it!

It looks so amazing on you! Frankly you will probably be very unhappy if you have to choose a different dress after that one. Can another one live up to this one? You are the bride. If you are happy and glowing in your dress it will work.

Wow thank you everyone for the comments! I think I have been kind of worried lately, "does it all go together".  In all the rustic weddings Ive seen on blogs, the bride always has an informal lacey dress, which is not mine at all.  I think I'm getting nervous in general, being less than six weeks out, about soo many people looking at me.  My dress IS uniqure with a lot of different details, and its starting to make me feel even more self-conscious. I do really like the dress itself, but I wonder if I was more understated perhaps I wouldn't feel this way. Anyway - THANK YOU for all your honest opinions!!

I'm getting married in a flower garden too, and thought I wanted a simple lace mermaid cut dress... what I ended up with is total pageant Barbie and over-the-top with about 30 pounds of ruffles. So I say pish-posh to being overdressed :D Do it up. Its your wedding! :)))

honestly compared to some of the other dresses i see on these boards yours is quite understated and elegant.  love the cris-cross detail!!  the fact that it's not a ball gown pretty much makes a dress not super formal to me.  i think you'll be fine, and like others said-if you love that dress then wear it, it's your wedding!!  and by the way it looks absolutely great on you, good taste!

I think it works fine with your venue. Love the details of your dress and if you are comfortable in it- then go for it girl!

I actually like the look of the mixed rustic with more elegant details added. It's similar to the style of how our wedding is all coming together!
