I'd suggest she check out the Boston Public Library and Veronique. Those are both in the heart of Boston, and very unique!
ETA: Sorry, just read that she doesn't want to go into neighboring areas so some of these won't apply.

Not sure what the waiting lists are like but what about the Museum of Science or the Aquarium?
Maybe she could check out some of the local museums, such as the Peabody Essex Museum, the Charles River Museum of Industry and Innovation in Waltham, or the Multicultural Arts Center in Cambridge.
Decordova outdoor sculpture park in Lincoln, MA. It also has an indoor museum.
Cambridge Boat Club - I've never been to this one.
Larz Anderson Auto Museum in Brookline - They're having a wedding expo Sat March 3, 2012 from 11am-2pm
This place is in Medford - but - if she's looking for unique, affordable, and allowing outside caterers, it might be worth a look:

The Boston Public Library is gorgeous - but SUPER expensive. House of Blues is also unique, funky...but also pricy.
I've been to a wedding at the MOS and thought it was just "OK" - they don't allow outside caterers and I found the food to be quite ...blehhh.

Hi Bees,
My dear friend is getting married in Boston and she's having trouble finding a venue for next May. Bees are so helpful, so I thought I'd ask around for her on here! She doesn't want to use a hotel ballroom and she doesn't want to go into the neighboring areas. Any suggestions for unique venues that are (relatively) reasonably priced? Bonus points if they allow outside caterers! I think she's hoping to find a place that allows a minimum of 150 people.
Thank you! :)
