    Hello Bees!

I'm on the hunt for a photographer to shoot my wedding.  If you know of anyone or are someone in the Chicago area who had great photos done can you share the name of the photographer? I am looking for a photographer who is beautiful, modern and edgy. I love photojournalistic work. Thanks!!!

Oh, when I think of edgy the first studio that I associate with that is Real Life Weddings! http://www.reallifeweddings.com/ These guys are awesome and very non-traditional. We looked at a LOT of photographers and these would have been our first choice except that we wanted something less edgy :) They do beautiful work and are obviously extremely talented. We also met with them and they were professional and nice to talk to. If you hire them you MUST post some photos! Here is one of the photos from their wedding gallery.

I recently stumbled upon the work of Chicago photographer Jeremy Lawson.  It's a completely different feel than what we wanted, but I LOVE his stuff!!  So fun, edgy and unexpected.  Definitely check him out.

Oh my gosh, there are SO MANY awesome Chicago photographers! As a wedding planner, I am lucky to have worked with some of the best! 2 of my faves have already been mentioned - Steve Koo and Jeremy Lawson

Here are ones I love to recommend:

    - Olivia Leigh - http://www.olivialeighphotographie.com/
    - Kenny Kim - www.kennykim.com
    - Laurie Peacock - www.lauriepeacock.com

While I'm always biased toward my hubby-to-be Steve Koo (as I mentioned above!), I also love Jeremy Lawson, Olivia Leigh and Laurie Peacock (my wedding photographer!!). Also Dawn Roscoe is another great one -

All just depends on your style and budget and how edgy you want to go. But there are a lot of great photographers listed above!

check out George Street they are awesome.  We picked David he is really photo journalistic.  Stay away from companies with only one photographer, because, God forbid anything happens who will be able to fill in.  Pictures are the only thing you will have to look back on your special day. George Street has back up photographers and each photographers have two cameras of the same quality in case something happens to the camera.  Also they suggested to pay for the photographer's meal at the venue so that if there is a photo op he can get right in and take pics.  If you don't get them at plate the photographer will leave for an hour. George Street is in Chicago on Lincoln and Montrose and also in Schamburg next to House of Brides.

Hey there.  I'm going to suggest a photographer here in Toronto who travels extensively to various clients.  His name is Dmitri Markine and he's been named as one of the top photographers in Canada (can't find the article right now, though).  His prices are pretty decent, starting at $3K (in CDN funds).  We would have booked him but discovered him only after we already booked a photographer.

He's a friend of mine's BIL, and he did their beatiful wedding photos (check out Stephanie and Bruno on his website).

@Mrs.Chocolate Popcorn - generally photographers who work solo/have their own company ensure that should they not be able to make it for any reason (ie be near death or in a coma!), they will ensure that there is a photographer of the same quaility at your event. My wedding photographer has that in her contract, I believe, and so does my hubby-to-be. There's a strong network of photographers who all know each other (especially in cities like Chicago) so between everyone they know/know of, it's pretty reasonable to assume that someone of that group will be available.

SO - that's a great question for anyone to ask their photographer when meeting with them - ie what is the backup plan? :)

We are using Thomas Slack (www.slackphotography.com) and find him to be absolutely amazing. Just had our engagement shots over Labor Day- really solidified our choice!

Hey guys! I'm new to the board here...but just wondering whats the difference between me posting myself up here as a photographer or if my future husband put a post up here advertising me. Sorry to sound clueless but just not sure whats acceptable on here and what maybe isn't.

Hope you found someone awesome...just out of interest who was/is it?

    Have an amazing wedding day!!

    Melissa

@MelissaatFresh - the general rule seems to be spamming the boards about a specific vendor (especially the posts that are trying to seem like they are from brides but they're most likely vendors) is frowned upon, as well as starting threads specifically to advertise your services, as those are supposed to be placed in the Classifieds section.

But generally, if a thread is started about a particular topic (such as this one), people chime in with a variety of reccommendations. Hope this helps to clarify, and welcome to Weddingbee!
