- Wedding: September 2011
My fiance and I both have very ecclectic tastes in music, and most of our guests do too. We’re writing up the last few things for our DJ and wanted to find a couple more really cool covers of popular love songs. We have a massive music collection but sometimes just forget that certain songs even exist because it’s been ages since we heard them.
Our favorites so far:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-JG1ulBqE4&feature=related <– A surf/garage band’s rendition of My Heart Will Go On, which is even better live as these guys are not just outstanding musicians, but wear bankers’ suits and Mexican wrestlers’ masks on stage. Los Straitjackets. Always a really good show. We’ll play this as the bridal party enters the reception for introductions.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZQNe8IMLtQ <– an all-piano rendition of Cant Help Falling In Love, the awesome Elvis song, which will be our processional. Done by The Piano Guys, and gives me a wee little shiver every time I hear it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xycnv87N_BU <–Indie band Pomplamoose’s version of Earth Wind and Fire’s September, which we’ll play either as guests are arriving, or during the reception
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osPijYP_f3g&feature=related <– Ska band The Pietasters covering Same Old Song, which isn’t a love song at all but still one of those fun songs that everyone seems to know the words to, so we’ll play it during cocktail hour and I don’t think our guests will find it weird or offputting at all to hear a “You left me” kind of song at a wedding (any more than they would expect us to have some weird beach disaster just because we play Rock Lobster)
I would love to add a few more to my list so bring on your recommendations as long as they’re ecclectic and not current top-40, we’re also not huge rap or C&W fans. Ska, swing, new wave, brit pop are all really good for us!
