Nordstrom's has a lot of decent dresses in their plus sized section (online). Their in store selection is not nearly so comprehensive.
Have you thought about Lane Bryant? They're a strickly plus sized store and have great dresses that you can check out online or in the store.
Best part is if you buy the dress online and you don't like it, you can return it at no charge and get a full refund at the store. :)
What exactly are you looking for? What is her size? Sometimes, (from personal experience) lane bryant's stuff is just BAD. I've got tons of resources, I just need more to go from.
Well, I'm not sure what her size is. I don't really want to ask since we're not that close. She was just having trouble finding something and wanted to make sure I liked whatever she chose for my wedding. I shop everywhere and I never really thought that it was any different for anyone with bigger sizes so I didn't really focus on her dress early on so now we have 2 1/2 months until the wedding and I've started searching. She's not in the bridal party, but she'll be in family photos. As I do fashion for a living (and shop constantly) I thought I could help her out, but now that I've been searching I've realized some dresses don't come above 12 and I think she's above that. One option, I noticed that Jenny Yoo does rush bridesmaids gowns for an extra fee so I was maybe going to go through those dresses and see if she wanted to get one of those just as a dress. Hmm. Does that make sense?
Nordstroms is great... Macys online also carries similar brands & they usually have many in the store as well.
goodluck!
If you aren't comfy asking her size, then it's going to be a toughy to find something. See if your brother knows her size--- I'm sure he's seen her size on clothes at some point or another. You can find things up to a size 16 at Jcrew and Banana republic (both great places for things up to a 16)- but if she is larger than that (I am) you might want to try Old Navy online, lane bryant, & the avenue. Take her to david's bridal- they have a decent selection of short dresses in a number of sizes... then this way at least you might be able to sneak a peak at her size.
But honestly, wouldn't you rather she be comfortable than her outfit be something you liked versus something she liked, you know since she has to wear it and might want to try to wear it again???
Thank you guys sooooooooooo much for all of your suggestions. I ended up calling Thread Design in California. And they are going to rush a custom dress for us! I have to say their service is impeccable. So friendly, professional. And for my actual bridesmaids dress the quality and style was so amazing. I'm sure they will make a nice dress for my FBIL's GF to wear at our wedding- she just went through their info and picked a dress she would be comfortable in. Anyway, thank you so so much for all of your suggestions!

Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone could help me. I'm trying to help my FI's brother's GF find a dress for our wedding which is April. She is young in her 20s and needs a dress for a plus size girl. I have no idea where to look for this. I immediately thought of Thread, where I got my bridesmaids dresses but they need at least 3 months and we don't have enough time. Can you guys help me with any suggestions? We are in NYC area. The wedding is in Jamaica so thinking warm colors, light fabrics.
