I am using http://www.thomaspaulphoto.com.   They are based in Long Island but do wedding in the city (which is where I am getting married).  My friend Kat used them last September and her pictures were great.  My package came in under $4K too!

What are you hoping to get with that $4k? How many hours do you want, do you want an engagement session, etc. The reason I ask is because a lot of photogs are willing to work with your budget to create a package thatw orks for you. I’m using Patricia Kantzos (www.kantzos.com), and she’s super flexible/easy to work with. I also really like Agaton Strom, Jennifer Davis, and Jen Huang, all of whom I met with myself and were willing to negotiate to find a package that worked for me–maybe it included less hours, no album, etc.

Some other photogs (don’t know their pricing, but they’ve gotten good reviews on here/the knot): Kenny Pang, Willi Wong, and Ryan Brenizer

I highly recommend Sarah Edwards, who will come in under your $4,000 budget. She’s based out of CT, but can certainly travel to NYC. She took my engagement photos, designed my Save the Date and will be shooting at my wedding. Check her out at http://www.edwardsphotodesign.com.

thanks for all these names guys! we’re hoping a photog is one place we can save for our NYC wedding, without compromising a lot of quality, so this is helpful to me as well.

We’re using Sarah Tew.  She’s fab, and her middle of the road package was slightly over $4k but included lots of stuff we wouldn’t have got with other photogs like an engagement session, photo guest book, all our photos on a cd/dvd, album, parent album, and boxed photos.

And our guests are raving about how gorgeous our engagement shoot was – we used some of the photos for our saves and even the guys thought they looked amazing!

We are using Steve Worth photography.  His most expensive package is he and his wife, all the trimmings ALL day, $3K.

I love my b-pic photog, Kimberly Salem and she is under your budget and does photo journalistic photos. If you increase your budget by a little and want to splurge though, I would also suggest Susan Stripling

I am using Bill Walsh of Stellaview Studios – he updated his rates for 2010 but it’s still well under $4k.  When you add albums, etc., that might use up the rest of your budget, but if you opt to do your own albums (like me), then you’ll have a lot left over.

I found an independent, upcoming photographer out of CT to do our e-pics, named Natasha Montero.  She cost literally next to nothing and I got enough pictures the go through to get a good set of photos to create an album (which will be used for our guests to sign so we’ll have it always).

There are lots of ways to save in this department but it takes a lot of work and research; I like to think I’ve done a good job, so it’s left me with funds to use elsewhere.  GL.

Stephanie Reinish of Mel Stephens Photography (http://www.melstephensphotography.com) is a good friend of mine.  She did an engagement shoot for me after I hated the shots from my original photographer’s engagement session, and I loooooooove what we got.

Good luck!!

We will be using Jim Kocis!  Our package came to about $2200- he was very flexible in tailoring our package to include what we wanted ( for example, an album but no prints).
