Some suggestions:
Crossed Keys Inn in Andover NJ
Rutgers Gardens (they have a log cabin)
Good luck!
im having my reception at Perona Farms... 50 acres of land and it is beautiful!! Its in Andover, NJ
Staci, if you don't mind me asking what is the price range for perona farms?
Schrutebeets, when I saw your name under "last post by," I thought you were going to recommend the No. 1 beet-related agrotourism destination in Northeastern Pennsylvania. ;)
Perona Farms is quite expensive. I was quoted $120/person (+tax +grat). And the reception is not in the barn, it is tented (ceremony can be held in barn however). Its a gorgeous facility... just not what we are looking for. We'd prefer more rustic... hopefully we can find somewhere.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I will be looking into these! And will keep you updated.
Any others?
we had our reception at the Lodge at Schooley's mountain in Long Valley. It's part of the Morris County parks system so fairly inexpensive to rent. $100/hour. We found our own caterer etc.
Also, check out the Raritan Inn http://www.raritaninn.com/
I worked at Lake Valhalla Country Club in Montville once (for an event company). It's not quite "barn" but it is very rustic with almost a ski lodge type of interior. The outdoor space/ceremony overlooks a lake with mountains all around. Especially nice for fall or maybe even winter weddings.
@PinkDeer: What did you end up doing? I wish I had seen this post sooner. We are having our wedding at The Stockton Inn in Stockton Inn New Jersey with both the ceremony and reception all outside on their covered garden patio and only a stones throw away from the Delaware River. Its also very old and historic. Plus its less than an hour away from Clinton.
We found a gorgeous restored 18c. Dutch barn in Somerset, NJ. Has a lawn perfect for boccee and croquet during cocktail hour. The barn fits 150 (probably more like 120 comfortably) and we were able to bring in our own caterer and alcohol!! So perfect for us!!!
Reneeb407--that sounds perfect. we are (and have been) looking for a similar space. are you able to share or forward me the details? Thx!
@PinkDeer: Hi! I anm looking for exactly the same kind of venue you were, and I just read your post aboout the farm you are using, Is it a place you could share informaation with me? Whare is it, and just how are your plans going etc. :)
Thanks
Shawna
@PinkDeer: Hi Renee! I'm also wondering if you'd be willing to share your location details? I've just started the process of finding a lovely rustic/barn kind of setting for my wedding, and I'm sure you know how frustrating it can be! Any advice/info you are able to share would be much appreciated!
Thanks!!

Hi bees--
We've spent the past few months searching for a venue for our reception but havent found anything that fits yet. I would love for it to be within an hour of Clinton,NJ but would be willing to go a bit farther for a great venue.
What we want:
Indoor-Outdoor space (we want to have lawn games!!)
A standing structure like a barn, patio, pavilion, etc. (would like to avoid tents if possible)
Rustic
Low site fee ($500 or less)
Able to fit 100 people
Somewhere we can hire in a caterer and byob
Would love to have it at a private residance that happens to have a hay loft style barn. My fiance thinks it would be great to go the week before and move haybales to make space etc. He's really digging the barn idea and its the first wedding related thing that ive seen him super excited about so I am trying to take the idea and run. His newest related idea was to have our big enterance be on an old tractor (Maybe a John Deere since we will be the Deers...hehehe)
Soooo comeon bees.......any ideas?? Anyone know someone who might let us use their farm for our wedding!?!
