Okay, not exactly- but I need recommendations for underwear that stays in PLACE and covers my butt without coming halfway up my abdomen. In a world where everyone is fixated on not having panty lines I can’t find much in between the skimpy and grandma extremes.
I do a martial art that involves a lot of kicking and basically going into the splits- and I’m tired of constantly adjusting my underwear. Thongs aren’t an option because my uniform is loose and soft, so without full-butt underwear I get a wedgie from the pants alone and that looks WAY worse. (Panty lines aren’t a concern because the pants are so loose).
I do have one pair of patagonia underwear:
that’s specifically designed to stay put during exercise and it works great- but they’re $20/pair and I can’t afford $100 for one week’s worth of underwear.
So any suggestions for workout underwear that stays in place yet won’t put me in the poorhouse (or make me look like a grandma)?

um i wear hanes. from target. they make ones that are called something like “no lines”. they stay in place, are comfortable, and I don’t have lines. I also don’t wear skin-tight clothing, so no one would see my “panty” line anyway.

I was just about to suggest Hanes too! They’re like $8 for a 4-pack at Target. I actually got them to be my “period panties” but I ended up loving them because they’re so comfortable. They are full coverage and stay in place really well. The only thing is, for working out, they’re cotton…not sure how you feel about that.
They look like this…

Lululemon has great underwear that stays in place while working out – I like the Light as air hipster

I like hte “cheeky” style from VS. They come in cotton, they’re a lower-rise, they’re not granny-ish and they don’t bunch up

I have a couple of pairs from Isis that I wear when I don’t have to worry about panty lines (like under running shorts):
“Like the lines of a bikini, but sick of getting wedgies? These bikinis stay right where they belong. Super stretchy fabric retains its shape, while also providing powerful wicking and quick drying properties – key qualities if you’re working up a sweat, rinsing them out in a stream, or just wearing them under a skirt or jeans.”
Check the sale section too- they have some different styles there as well.

Fruit of the loom has “microfiber” seemless panties. I have them in bikini cut. They stay in place very well. I think a 4 pack is less than $5 so if you loathe them, it’s not a huge investment. I’m picky about underwear

I have been wearing the VS 3/30 microfiber bikini, or the cotton hiphugger with rouching in the back

@MrsBroccoli: I’m going to give these a try. I’m super picky about underwear too- and I HATE that most stores don’t let you try them on over the ones you’re wearing (but then allow you to return them.. how does that make sense?)

@vermonster: Those look a lot like the Patagonia ones I like. Maybe I’ll try the ones in the sale section. Do you know of any stores that carry them?

Thanks to everyone who replied! I appreciate all the different suggestions and will try them out as time and money allows. I try to steer clear of cotton while working out but maybe I’ll try some Hanes for normal wear- it looks like they’ve come a long way since I wore them as a five year old, haha.

It may sound weird, but I do martial arts also and always use stretchy men’s underwear… The same kind of material as a sports bra but a bit thinner..
Stays in place, not skanky and very comfortable. It goes down to my upper thigh, almost mid thigh.

I’m curious as to why you’re concerned about “grandma” underwear when you’re doing a martial art. I’d sooner wear the grandma underwear just for martial arts, and change otherwise. I don’t think you need to be fashionable or sexy in a martial arts uniform. Maybe a hip brief, like this one?
Briefs (“grandma” panties), or actual men’s underwear, are usually the best for not riding.
Here are some that are good for exercising, I’d say the ones for cardio/high-intensity cardio are probably best for martial arts: http://www.prevention.com/fitness/fitness-tips/best-underwear-exercisers/
