Alfred Angelo. Check for bridal shops that carry Casablanca, Mori Lee, Allure, Jasmine, Mon Cheri, Impression, Eden. All of those designers have a good selection of affordable dresses. Also, Wtoo by Watters and Maggie Sottero, but they are more mixed with a lot above $1000 and some below.
There are tons of brands that sell reasonably priced dresses. I love Modeca, WToo, Enzoani and Mon Cheri. Just try a different bridal shop.
Nordstrom opened a bridal suite earlier this year in select stores - they also show the dresses online. I thought they had the best selection by far under $1000. Good luck!
They're a little different from the norm, but if you get them in white they could be more traditional - www.wai-ching.com. All real silks and very affordable!
I've seen a few brides on here who have ordered a bridesmaid dress in either white or ivory which is an option for a lot of styles. Maybe see if any of those suit your taste?
I purchased a Wtoo dress that was under $1000. I loved a lot of Watter's dresses and in my experience they appear more expensive (due to quality and detail) than their price point.
Are you in a major city that has the running of the brides? (If they still do that since Filenes basement is closing). They are almost all $250, and some $500 max.
My dress was priced out of my price range at the bridal shops in my area. I decided to call around to shops that were on the designer's authorized dealer list. I lucked up. I found a shop in New Jersey that was $800 less, there isn't any taxes, and shipping will only cost me $25 via UPS. The shop is called JaeHee Bridal Atelier in New Jersey and they have an online store called SayYesBridal.com. I've seen lots of designer dresses on sale for under $1k on their site. They also have their own collection. You should check it out or give them a call. Christine helped me and so far I'm pleased. I should have my dress by March :)
Good Luck!

It is a charity bridal shop in VA - here is the discussion thread on WB:

Go everywhere (except couture shops). Most places have a wide range of prices, and a lot of shops will have clearance dresses. I've tried on some really nice clearance dresses that were $2000 and were marked down to $400. A lot of Mori Lees and some Maggie Sotteros are priced under $1000. That was my budget as well and my Maggie came just under $1000 with tax. More than I wanted to spend but there were a lot of $700-$800 dresses too.
@MilksMom: TFJ!!! :)
I'm in Norteast Wisconsin. I can travel anywhere though (within about 4 hours).
Check Broke Ass Bride. They always do articles about expensive dresses and their similar less expensive counterparts.
I know you've been 4 times, but did you try on every gown--even the ones you don't think would look good on you? You'd be surprised what works and doesn't work.
@mmsva: Yes I've tried on a ton of dresses. I've even asked the sales assoicate to just pull dresses she thinks will look good on my figure.
The last time I was there after about 10 dresses the girl asked what can she do to make me say "yes to the dress" today. I told her to find me different dresses.
@thisismeAXiD: I have never seen a trunk show or running of the brides anywhere in Wisconsin. Closest I've seen is Chicago. Are you semi-close to Appleton or Kaukauna? The Bridal Event in Appleton is where I got my dress, they have lots of dresses for under $1000 and it's the best service I've gotten anywhere. Bridal Elegance and Formalwear in Kaukauna has a good selection too.
@thisismeAXiD: What styles and features have you found that you are liking so far? If there is a particular style, maybe just start looking at different dresses in that silhouette. I feel like it also helped to keep a running favorite and try to top that dress each time.
I bought my dress from Bridal Elegance in Kaukauna... I liked that the sales associates let us look around and didn't bug us unless we asked... they had a clearence rack, but I still think we found a decent amount of dresses for a decent price. I bought mine for $800 after a discount they offered that month and shipping and sales.
I wan't impressed with The Bridal Event in Appleton... And I agree with your DB experience! I went to the one in Appleton, had the most anoying consultant who kept on asking me what I didn't like about the dress... Sometimes I don't like the dress because I DON'T! She said that they didn't have the two dresses I really wanted to try on, but finally produced one of them...
If you're looking in the Milwaukee area I tried on dresses at Heim's Bridal... They have a very nice selection and you can find stuff that is affordable... but they do not let you take pics :( I also went to the Bridal Sweet in West Allis. They only really carry one brand, but they had affordable dresses and the sales staff was very nice. I also went to KAy's Bridal in Wauwatosa. They gave me a book with all of the dresses that they carried and their prices. I chose the dresses and they picked them up for me. There sales staff was also super nice and helpful!
Hope that helps, and good luck (the cheaper dresses are out there!)
@auggiefrog: Green Bay...(Go Packers 8-0!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). Good tips. I get to Milw about once a month, so I'll see if I can't go check the places you mentioned!
I got my Anjolique dress for a little under $900 after discounts (before alterations) - original price was $1030. Check out Anjolique!

I know that my dream dress (around 3 grand new) if often listed around $1,000. Even if you HAVE to have a brand spanking new dress there are frequently samples listed too.
good luck!

Hi ladies! I'm looking for dresses that are lest than $1000. I have been to David's Bridal 4 times and have come back empty handed. Nothing there has really caught my eye. Any suggestions of places to check?
