I know it’s still early, but I’m getting so excited to celebrate our first Christmas as a married couple in our new home! So tell me, Bees..how do you decorate for Christmas? What kind of traditions do you have? What do you love most about Christmas/the holidays?
ETA: For Bees that voted they buy real trees, what kind do you buy? I’ve never had a real tree before and I’d really like one!

@Steampunkbride: lol you made me spit out my sandwich!
OP: I have a 21 year old dracaena which I hang things from all year round. Currently there are some red ribbons and a silver bell on there so I’m gonna call it a Christmas tree.

A real one! I can’t remember what type, but normally the more expensive ones which drop needles less…
I had an artifical one last year, because I was living in Asia and a real one wasn’t an option, but I really missed my real one!

@rcac1208: I didn’t plan to get a tree this year, but apparently my BFF made me an “ornament Advent calendar” that she’s putting on a mini tree. LOL So I guess that will be my Christmas tree this year. I hope it fits on my breakfast bar, cause that’s really the only space we have.

@rcac1208: I love Christmastime! I haven’t been able to decorate accordingly for several years (mostly due to having cats that would wreck everything). I’m hoping to be able to decorate this year. I’ve always dreamed of having a beautiful (fake) tree decorated in dark blue and silver ornaments with white lights, and maybe a pretty wide satin ribbon as a sash. I’m trying to figure out the best way to decorate in a way that will NOT attract the kitties’ attention (no sparkly stuff, and shatterproof ornaments). 🙂
I think my favorite part of the holiday is spending time with loved ones, be it family or friends, and eating an awesome meal. Presents are nice too, but I generally just love the time with family.

My boyfriend and I went and picked our fake tree out together. Simply, because our dogs drink all of the water out of real ones, and/or we forget to water the thing. The nostalgia of a real tree is wonderful, but we can’t handle the upkeep.
So, we still got the nostalgia of getting ‘our’ tree.

@rcac1208: I have never had a fake tree so I don’t think I could ever have one at this point. I LOVE the smell. I don’t care how messy the pine needles are, or how much my kitty trys to climb it…a real christmas tree is the best! I think the one I get is the “noble fir”. Sometimes I will be in the mood to go to a farm/lot or sometimes I will just get one at Home Depot.
Did I mention I LOVE Christmas? 🙂

We do not have one because we are remodeling, and I do not want to put a Christmas tree until the house is all done. Before we bought our current home, we used to live in a small condo we also own, and i HATE a busy/full house, so I did not put a Christmas tree for three years. Hopefully next year we’ll have one.

My husband’s family has ALWAYS had a real tree, and he will hear of nothing else. I am totally ok with it though! My family has fake trees because my mom got so tired of dealing with the needles, and also sometimes we thought our dogs couldn’t help themselves and would constantly “sample” the needles just in case the flavor got better every once in awhile 😛
Also, our little dogs are dachshunds, so they would wander around under the tree and make the tree drop its needles a lot haha.

@Sweet_Tea: This is a really sad story but…
I have a kitty. She is a royal pain in my rear end. If there’s trouble to find, she WILL find it. We struggled for YEARS at my Mom’s house trying to keep her off the tree. I rubbed citrus on the tree, put oranges in the tree, put aluminum foil around the tree..EVERYTHING. Everything I could find online to do, I tried. We eventually gave in and took our tree down.
The following year we thought “She’s a year older, let’s try again”. So, we put up the tree and of course the cat climbed it. One day she was sitting in the tree, and a sharp part of the metal near where the branches touches the trunk must have cut her, because she screamed, jumped out of the tree, and in 2 years hasn’t even bothered with it.
