We test drove a 2013 Nissan Sentra a few days ago. It is a used car, used for a very short time. It is fully loaded, huge perk for the price.
The issue… It needed a new tire (they had a spare on it) so the drive was bumpy. Hard to know if it’s the car or the tire. Also, the check engine light was on. The salesman assured us this would be fixed (as well as the tire) before we would be able to take it home. DH was also concerned that it took a long time to melt the ice on the windshield, but didn’t say anything at the time.
The salesman was PUSHY. Nice in the beginning, a shark at the end.
We are also looking at a Honda. A used 2012 fit our budget, but the consumer reports were not in favour of this car. We could go with a new 2013 (unlikely there will be a used 2013 around) but it will cost more, and the deal will not be as good as the Nissan. It will not be fully loaded. (Nissan had upgraded speakers, keyless entry and start, sun roof, navigation system etc). The Honda salesman was so nice and not pushy at all. We would much rather give him our business, but we also want to be happy with the car.
What should we do?

@MrsGatito: Ummm, if a 2013 was already on a spare and had the check engine light on…I’d pass on it. It’s at a dealership for a reason, because it’s not evey 2014 yet….either a lemon or someone drove it to death…pushy salesman only makes things worse…go with the 2012.

First, take the salesman out of the picture. It’s too bad that one was nicer than the other and you want to give them your business, but ultimately it’s down the car you want to spend your money on. I’d be wary of why there is already a 2013 Sentra selling as used, especially with the check engine light on already. Was it in an accident, what is the problem with it. Have them put a real tire on it and drive it again. Sounds like you’re leaning toward the Nissan, so if thats the car you really want to drive, I’d go with that. (I have the 2013 Altima, the keyless is AWESOME. I always thought it was pointless until I had it.)

I’m a huge fan of Honda, so I’d be going with the Honda naturally. I love my 2011 Fit, and we’re looking at getting my husband a used Civic or Accord next year when we get home from our honeymoon.
