I’ve been having a difficult time lately…which can all be summed up in my last post. Basically, I have a lot of stressful/heartbreaking things happening to me all at the same time (put my cat to sleep a week ago, and still getting over it, spent the last month studying for and taking the certified paralegal exam–still not sure if I passed, blah blah blah.) And the saga continues… I just found out on Friday that I am getting a promotion at work (yay!), which means a substantial increase in my duties. However, I will not receive a raise until I pass my paralegal exam. If I did pass this time around, it’ll only be one pay period with lower pay. However, if I didn’t, I will still be working in my promoted role (which is at least 2/3 more work than I do now, late nights, etc.) without compensation for the extra work. Is it lame of me to think this is unfair? I’m grateful for the promotion, but it is totally unmotivating to me as I could be doing less work for the same amount of pay. Someone, help me to see the positives in this situation…I’m feeling pretty negative right now (most likely because I’m still grieving and overstressed).
