I really dont have any advice, are you eating too much fiber? Also some prenatal vitamins contain a stool softener so you might want to check if yours has that.

How far along are you? This definitely happened to me at the end of my pregnancy.

@winniewolf: 5 weeks is still very early, I wouldn’t worry that this will trend your whole pregnancy. Could be hormones, or just something you’re eating. Ask your doctor if it’s really unbearable, maybe she or he can recommend something that will help.

I read in “WTEWYE” that just because constipation happens to a lot of women, doesn’t mean that it will happen to everyone.  It goes by how your body responds to hormones.  For me, I tend to have more loose stools than I have constipation… (sorry, TMI), and that seemed to follow me into the pregnancy.  🙁  Also, my prenatals have a stool softener, which probably isn’t helping the situation, but it’s never really too bad.  You might want to talk to your doctor about switching prenatals?

I find that the more fiber I eat, the worse it gets, but that might just be me.

Here’s what I normally eat:

Breakfast:  Kashi cereal (Go Lean Crisp or Original) – DO NOT eat the Go Lean Crunch variety unless you want to be extremely gassy all day 😉

OR 2 eggs w/ a slice of whole wheat toast and a glass of milk, OJ or V8

Snack:  Oatmeal or greek yogurt, and a piece of fruit

Lunch:  This varies from day to day, but usually a sandwich, or leftovers

Snack:  protein bar or small bowl of cereal (frosted mini-wheats or quaker oat squares)

Dinner:  Whatever my hubby makes 🙂  Usually baked/grilled chicken, fish or steak with one or two sauteed vegetables.

So I guess there is a lot of fiber in there.
