I know everyone says they are going to loose weight for the 2011. (especially brides with the big day coming up). I'm curious to find out how do you plan on starting your weight loss journey. I need some inspiration.
I want to lose a bit of wedding weight myself. I want to get back to working out at least 3 times a week and working on my diet. I eat way too many sweets!
I was doing well with losing weight, but I hit a plateau, and then the holidays hit, so I have put back on a couple of pounds. I plan to get back on track by cutting soda altogether, eating more healthy foods, using the weights that I got for Christmas to tone up, and also start walking. My FI got me a belated Christmas present yesterday; an iPod shuffle, so I have it loaded up and will start my first walk tomorrow. From what I have researched, walking seems to be the best way to lose weight.
I wanted to write down all the days that I work out. I am hoping to start working out 4 days a week. My big issue is Food. There is always unhealthy food in the workplace, it makes it really difficult. I'm going to have to find a way to stay focused on not eating that stuff while working.
I started back hard core today as I have a deadline to make (spring break 2011 first week in April) and began w/specialized diet today and taking some supplements combined w/1 hr exercise (did lots of walking with hubby!).
That's my plan. Diet is about 1,100 cal per day and you can supplement w/an extra snack if you need to. Should drop quick, but it's very very healthy.
I plan on also cutting out the soda, fast food (although we really don't eat it all that often anymore), juice, candy, sweets, etc. I need to start eating healthier, more fruits and veggies and water!
I plan on going back to the gym. Also, DH got a Kinect for Christmas and there are some weight loss games I'd like to buy to start working out that way as well.
@noritake22: You will not believe how much the music will pump you up! I love listening to my iPod while working out, I really find my rythym and get into it.
Hey girl! I'm from Massachusetts too, and I just started loosing weight for my August 6th wedding. When's your date?
I have a food plan:
Breakfast is a 100 calorie English muffin with 1 hard boiled egg whites.
Homemade fruit smoothie (I buy frozen fruit and add water and blend, it's actually really sweet but my roomie adds splenda to hers).
Lunch is oatmeal, crackers, and soy milk
Dinner is a salad with either chicken or tuna.
I take either an apple or an orange to work and I snack on wedges at least once an hour to keep my metabolism up.
Then I go to the gym after work.
If you want to be weight loss buddies, that would be awesome! We can give each other will power :o)
@CaraMia10: I am really glad to see you comment that. It was my main reason for getting one. I really wanted the Nano, but I couldn't justify the price for what my main purpose is. I got the 4th generation one and it has more features than the previous ones, so it should work out great.
I plan on writing down what I eat. Eat clean. work out.
I forgot to add. DRINKING A TON OF WATER
I'm pre-planning/making healthy meals and working out ala Tracy Anderson Method. I used to dance all the time which kept me tiny but I don't have time to drive to the gym/class so it helps that I can spend an hour/hour and a half at home doing her workouts. I'm also pre-making things on Sundays. I just finished my week of meals, it only took me about 2 hours to make everything which will save me soooooo much time during the week. Hopefully I stick with doing this!! I've gained a good 20 pounds since I stopped my last "eating plan" (hate calling it a diet). I'm really confident!!! Good Luck ladies!!!
@almatron21: You are much more prepared than I am. I don't have a meal plan yet. My wedding is in Sept but my wedding shower is in May and I am a bridesmaid for a wedding in June. So getting fit for May is my first goal.
I purchased the book French Women Don't get Fat, I really like it and it kind of teaches you about how much some women overeat. (that is my problem, ha ha)
I currently don't have a gym membership but I do have a few great DVDs that I follow. They are a great workout. I might stick to workout dvds for the current month. Running or walking outside is difficult when it is freezing out.
We can be Weightloss buddies. How is the routine working for you?
@june42011: That sounds really awesome. I need to get myself a menu sorted out ASAP. Going day to day unplanned is only a recipe for disaster.
@SoontobeMsL: omg, it sucks going to the gym after a long day of work. But I literarlly drive by the gym on my way home, so I don't really have an excuse haha.
How do the home-work outs work? Can you actually feel it working?
@almatron21: Well I haven't started my workouts yet but when I was working out, I was alternating between 3 videos: 30 Day Shred, Banish Fat Boost Metabolism and Debbie Sieber's Tone It Up. All 3 DVDs are different and for me they work. When I was going to the gym, I would only use the trendmill or the elptical, I wasn't doing the weighted work out because frankly I just didn't know what I was doing. I'm better with direction.
I start weight watchers tomorrow!
I just got an email for 2 weeks free of weight watchers online.
I'm totally married to the my fitness pal website and iphone app. Keep my eating in check and continue to work out. Upping my workouts from 4 to 5 days a week to 5 to 6 and starting to meet with a trainer twice a week for strength training on top of the cardio I already do.
T-minus 90 days till the wedding!
It's not easy to lose weight especially as we age. You really have to commit to it or it just won't work, or at least it you won't reach your goal. I lost 10 lbs. in a few months, but I had to cut out eating out down to max. 2 times a month, no alcohol, only water, salads and sandwiches, fish and chicken breast (home made meals) and working out 3 times a week. At first it seems like torture, but after a couple of weeks it gets easy because it just becomes part of your normal routine. Trust me it's worth it when people compliment you on your new look.
i'm a little less than 3 months away and i've accepted the fact that i won't be stick thin for the wedding. i did do a boot camp training class and lost 2% body fat. better than nothing, right? :) ..good luck to everyone else!
I have to get back on track with fewer sweets, fewer processed foods, more fruits & veggies, more water/tea, less wine. Holidays are hard! I'm trying to work out 3-4x/week and get movement in each day, however little I can find time for. Just bought a neon reflecty jacket so I can start back with my outdoor running workouts...I'm hoping to run another half around April, so that will help me develop some real workout goals beyond "move and lift heavy things periodically".
I have the 3 Jillian workout videos and like No More Trouble Zones and the Shred quite a bit, so I just need to get back to doing them. It's always frustrating to start back since I know I won't do as well as I did before I took a break, but I just have to get over that hump.
I'm also on Sparkpeople and use their tools, but stopped tracking over the holidays. Time to start up again!
I joined Weight Watchers online and plan to kick up the exercising. Last January I started at the gym, just 3 days a week, and have worked up to 4-5 days a week now and do classes, strength training and cardio. Surprisingly I didn't lose much weight at all in my year at the gym, maybe 5 pounds, but my body changed and I just feel better. So hopefully by adding a day or switching up my routine AND following an eating plan I can lose 25-30 pounds. That is my goal.
My friends and I are doing a "fitness challenge". We set up a google document and we each have to track the hours we work out each day. We havent figured out a prize yet, but just knowing I'm "competing" against my friends gets me more motivated. We also decided each month one of us has to come up with an activity...some ideas so far include rock climbing, skiing, hiking, etc.
I think gettting others involved is really motivating. We actually did one to get in shape for my wedding and it was a huge help! I've also done weight watchers in the past and had a lot of success. Good luck with reaching your goal! :)
i am definitely determined to shed the 10 pounds of happy weight i've gained pre and post wedding!
i've started back on the mixture of p90x and JM workout dvd's... and am cutting out my afternoon treats that were OVERLOAD on bad calories and sweets/salts.
i just signed up for sparkpeople and am going to journal my trek to weight loss and healtheir living in my blog too. :)
Weight watchers online! I have been doing it since the beginning of October, and I am really seeing results. I would recommend it to anyone.
My biggest change will be cutting back on alcohol. I can polish off a bottle of wine every night. Hey four glasses goes down so easy when you are cooking or eating. Now I will be restricted to one bottle of wine to be consumed over weekend days (Fri-Sun). If I drink 4 glasses on Friday, I have used up my allowance (and so on...).
My second biggest challenge will be portion control. I eat very natural foods (no fast food, soda, etc.) but I have difficulties with portion control. Cheese and fatty meats are being reduced. Low carb doesn't really work for me as I don't eat a lot of white flour or other bread products. Sugar in other combo high-fat sources (such as desserts) will also be reduced. I am coming up with some lower sugar, high vitamin alternatives like pumpkin mousses made with canned pumpkin (so nutritious) and skim ricotta.
Good luck all!

It's FREE and they are having a 28 day bootcamp right now to kick start weight loss for the new year!
Since joining them in September, I have lost 23 lbs. I didn't lose any weight during the holidays but at least I didn't gain any! Key for me is Nutrition Tracking - where I track every blessed bit of food that I eat. I also exercise EVERY DAY. For me that is essential! At least 30 minutes a day but iusually 40 to 60 minutes a day.
Spark People are all about lifestyle change , not just losing some weight! And did I mention that it's free?
ok, well I maybe the only person on here crazy enough to do the Hcg diet. Just started today, little nervous, but excited for the results in 3 weeks! Good Luck
@tracieszcz: I just read a lil about this but can you fill us in a lil more on what you are doing?
@heather25: I did cut the alcohol out totally last year and it worked great! That being said .. i will now have to cut out the DARN Almond Hershy bar that calls my name from everywhere i go and the candy bar disappears faster then the wine does!
I'm sitting at work eating my salad and waiting till next weekend to start back at the gym. I hate january at the gym. takes twice as long to get things done with all the new people there.
FH and I are going to start taking a martial arts together :-) its something for us to both do together, learn something new, and get back in shape :-) i've tried many things in the past, diets, joining the gym, walking, and i never seem to stick with it....i'm hoping that doing a martial art with my future hubby will be just the thing to keep me focused and stay on track...
I've been doing Crossfit since July, but would like to have fewer off weeks (I tend to have about one week a month where I go 0-2 times), and more weeks where I make it 5 days instead of 4 (granted, if I cut down on my drinking, that would make it sooo much easier to get to the Saturday morning classes).
For me, the bigger challenge is with food. FI and I started Primal Blueprint after Thanksgiving, and I lost about 6 pounds which I kept off over Christmas and New Years (even though there were cookies, and lasagne, and champagne). We're back on the wagon today, and I'm hoping to lose about 6lbs a month between now and the wedding. We shall see!
Good luck everyone!
@heather25: I've had good luck making pumpkin mousses with canned pumpkin and coconut milk, sweetened with just a touch of molasses or honey. If you come up with any good ricotta-based recipes, let me know!
@heather25: It's a little rough, but basically you use these drops under your tongue and then eat very very little throughout the day. Its a very specific plan and if done correctly, you will not be hungry and will lose ALOT! I have had a few friends do it and on average you lose about 20 pounds in 21 days. Most people lose about 10 pounds in just the first week. The best part.... you get to gorge yourself with junk food two days before starting it. I know there is a lot on the internet about it, check it out. If you want to lose quick, then it might be the answer. I'll keep you posted!
Weight watchers. I lost 25 pounds with it last year and then stopped. Since getting engaged, I have signed up again with the hope of losing 10-15 more by June! I probably also need to start getting on the elliptical.
I use MyFitnessPal to keep track of my food. I am also hoping to work out 3-4 times a week. I just started the c25k plan and I am also hoping to take a dance class of some kind too. School starts again in the evenings next week, so I need to get in a habit of exercising without using homework as an excuse not to go all the time!
@HisIrishPrincess: Hilarity. I feel you on the gym thing. I have to call in for spinning btw. Thanks for the reminder.
I LIKE to eat! I typically lose 1 to 2 lbs. per week with the Spark People plan and I can have up to 1850 calories per day!
Cutting out soda and high sugar products. Working out 4 times a week (cardio and weight training).
