I had an amazing woman alter my dress. She's up in the valley and was recommended to me by the owner of a high end salon in San Diego so I wouldn't have to drive down to SD for all my fittings. She actually was (she's mostly retired now, but still does some work) a seamstress to the stars, but her prices are pretty reasonable...she ended up costing only ~$10-20 more than a local alterations place near me and put so much more attention into the dress.
She does do "from scratch" work as well...she had a dress she was custom making there when I was doing my fittings. It was gorgeous.
I'm at work right now and don't have her info, but I'll send it to you later. If you don't hear from me, send me a PM...I'm forgetful :)
Thank you qasiaraine, that would be great.
I'm technically "at work" too but obviously not working too hard as I'm browsing here :)

Having almost depleted all my ready-to-buy options and with little over 6 months to go till my wedding, I am considering having one custom made. I have a vision of exactly what I want, I just can't seem to find it after looking at 9 stores. I would if possible like to get this one dress that I like from the waist up, and have the skirt completely dismantled and remade. Although if starting from scratch is easier, I will definitely consider that as well.
For this, I need a good seamstress who does more than alterations but is willing to completely rework/recreate a dress. Budget is not the main concern, but I can't afford some "seamstress to Hollywood stars" kind of person. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!
