@hopefloats:  I have this app!  The “net” is how many you took in when taking into account any exercise (negative calories) you did.  The “food” section is the total amount you ate.  So if you ate 2,000 and burned off 500 by running, “food” will say 2,000 and “net” will say 1,500.  So be sure to put in your exercise too.  And yeah, you want to get more or less to your net intake goal every day (which is calculated based on the “net” calories), so “under” should be close to 0.
