So I seem to be “shedding” more than normal. I have long hair, but I’ve been pulling out hair lately in clumps! I had a clump come out last night while I was running my fingers through my hair that was so large it made me feel queasy.
Any suggestions on how to stop the hair loss? My hair is thick, but I was getting so concerned I just made my husband look over my scalp just to make sure I didn’t have any bald spots.

have you been brushing your hair more or less? i find that if i brush it less often, my hair comes out in bigger “clumps”.
i have thyroid problems, so i lose more hair than most people. then again, i have a lot of hair. so i don’t notice it aside from when i run my fingers through and have tons of hair in my hand.
it might be seasonal, too? you know how dogs shed more in the summer?

It could be a hormonal imbalance, or a hair treatment, or something as simple as what the pp said, a seasonal shift. I have PCOS, and as a result my hair grows really slowly. However, there was a time I had relaxed my hair, and as i was running my fingers through it, it was shedding, and when I tugged, clumps would come out, from the root, white bulb and all! To stop the shedding, I did an Aphogee protein treatment and that really slowed it down. I’ve also stopped relaxing and using unnatural products and my hair has gotten stronger than ever. Paired with vitamins, especially ones with biotin, my hairs back in tip top shape! I’ve heard really good things about hairfinity, but its super expensive. Also I take better care of my scalp, massage it, wash more often if i need to. Your scalp might be suffocating if you use alot of products, or even condition too often, and that could be contributing to the shedding. HTH!
TL;DR: A protein treatment, hair vitamins, and using products sparingly should help!

I lose more hair due to medication. I’m also slightly hyperthyroid and that can cause hair loss. My Rhumetologist who prescribes the med that causes hair loss has me take biotin everyday. I’ve noticed it helps a ton.
But it is normal to go through shedding periods with hair. You aren’t recently post-partum by chance? All that glorious pregnancy hair falls out in massive clumps once baby makes the grand enterence.
