Actually, not losing…lost. I am an RN, with my BSN. I’ve been working in ICU since I graduated, almost 5 yrs ago now. It was interesting at first, but it didn’t take long for me to lose my drive and compassion for nursing. I thought maybe I just needed a change of pace, but when I worked as a float RN, I worked on a regular floor a few times and hated every minute of it. I’ve also always been interested in mother-baby, but I’ve come to the realization that what really gets to me is the schedule. I don’t want to work every other weekend and holidays for the rest of my career! I’m also working midnight shift, which is definitely not my ideal.
I actually originally went into nursing because I thought I would work in peds. I love kids and miss working at my favorite job ever – at a daycare. But I’ve spent so much time and energy on my education, how can I just switch it up for something that is maybe not as dependable of a job?
I guess I just wanted to vent, and see if there are any other bees out there who are seriously considering a career change?
