I have a friend (not a very close friend) who does event planning at a university, and has worked as a wedding planner for several years... she offered to DOC as a wedding gift months ago, and I accepted.

Now we're 8 weeks out, and I got an email from her saying that she and her husband are double-booked - my wedding, and an event in Michigan that he really ought to go to b/c of his career. She says she's trying to figure out what to do... but I have a feeling that she's pretty much made up her mind on not being at my wedding.

I understand, but I'm kind of freaking out... my family has been very hands-off and uninvolved. They've been late on everything I've asked them to do for the wedding, and messed up a lot of things that I've had to fix. If my friend isn't the DOC, I absolutely have to hire someone, there just needs to be someone to help everything run smoothly, and there's no one else that I can think of who could handle it.

HELP! If you have advice, that's cool. Even if you don't, some hive hugs would be appreciated :-) I'm totally panicking, and I'm trying not to guilt trip her into being at my wedding if she doesn't want to, but holy crap I have 8 weeks to find a DOC!

That's awful! I'm so sorry you're in this situation! And eight weeks is a really short time to cancel on someone but, if you do need to hire someone, hopefully it is enough time. I'm not in your area but maybe someone can suggest a DOC they know? Can you post an ad on Craigslist? I'm sorry I can't help you but I really hope it works out for you!

I'm going to call one of my good friends, but she got married in Maplewood (which I think is close to you) and she used One Fine Moment.  They were really nice, and fit her budget, which was around $11,000.

One Fine Moment is in my area! I'll definitely check them out... thanks! Good call on Craigslist, I'll try that as well. Hoping to hear a final decision one way or the other from my friend soon...

Are her and the husband a team? Otherwise I'd wonder how that affects her availability...

Sorry that's not helpful thinking. Those ideas are good!
