Over the last few months I kind of thought my hair has been thinning. Then I thought I was being dramatic and my fiance was telling me that he didn’t notice a difference.
I have/had SUPER thick hair. Now, I realize that my pony tail bands go around my hair double of what they did a year ago. Also, I’ve confirmed that the sides of my hairline have thinned/receded. I’m thinking that since most people naturally have thinner short hairs around the hairline that maybe I just notice it more towards the front of my head?
8 months ago I injured my neck very badly. I’ve just recently in the last 2 months been able to move again. My Fiance literally had to do everything for me until recently. I went to the doctor and dermatologist last week to discuss my hair loss. They both said that after a traumatic event (my neck) and the stress that I am under (life, job, family w/ wedding planning, etc.) could be causing the hair loss. I guess there is a condition where a few months after a traumatic event, you just lose a ton of hair. My entire family on both sides have full heads of hair and no receding hairlines, so I’m hoping this is not hereditary.
I’ve started a lot of vitamins for hair growth (biotin, vit A, B, C, E, etc.), got Nioxin shampoo which is suppose to wash away the DHT (DHT hormone initiates a process of follicular miniaturization, in which the hair follicle begins to deteriorate), and got this herbal hair growth leave in spray from John Masters Organic. I’m very gentle with brushing now as well. I’m trying to go the natural route before putting chemicals on my head, but also the longer I wait to try something like a rogaine the more my hair follicles could go dormant or die. I’m hoping the hair will come back and it’s just stress and my injury. My dermatologist recommended rogaine, but I believe once you start you can never stop?
It’s not noticeable with my hair down nor with it in a low pony tail, but with it tied high back, I think it looks bad.
I constantly look at it. I was warned that it could get worse before it gets better because new hair follicles can push hair out as it is trying to grow in. It’s hard not to stress even more than before! I have been told that it will take 3 months to see new hair growth because it’s just the pattern of the hair.
I’m so worried I’ll be bald on my wedding day! I’m lucky to have a Fiance that will love me not matter what and thinks I’m stunning on my worst days, but it’s just hard as a woman to cope with this (especially at only 26).
Has anyone ever lost hair? Any advice or knowledge you could share?
