you can make paper lanterns (sorry i have no pics) or martha stewart has some cool lace diy ones this month. What is your look/ theme/ colors?
I don't have pics, but hurricane candle holders sound like just the thing for you. Most are 11"-12" tall, so you candle has no real chance of catching anything on fire. I'm using them, and putting glass beads/rock in the bottom to hold the candle steady.
Here is a picture of something that I really liked and used for inspiration-hope it helps!
Thanks gals! My colors are chocolate, champagne, orange lots of fall colors! I like the latern idea! I wish I could hang colored laterns from the ceiling but my reception place is very snobby and doesn't like anything like that. :( Miss Snowflake where did you get that pic? I wonder what kind of vases they are, never seen that shape before.
We're doing something similar like Miss Snowflake but one large hurricane with a large flower(s) (most likely carnations or hydrangeas) submereged in the water with a floating candle ontop. There will be crushed shells on the bottom as well as votives around the platform.
Pretty Kitty- That sounds great, I specially like the sea shell idea. I think there are so many options out there that I have been getting overwhelmed!
rustic? Chique? you could do a metal cutout thing around the candles and get some nice patterns on the tables too. Or buy really cool looking candles and put them in clean vases i googled unique candles and found these, i'm sure you could find some awesome looking ones!
lol. I got a couple sideways glances after returning 30 candle lanterns to IKEA.
Here are some pics of my centerpieces. . . . the vases are from dollar tree and the votives inside(their fake) are from Christmas tree shops and the glass marbles are from Michaels. I didnt want the floating candles or mirror either. . . .
Hope they helped. . if you like them message me and i can give you the low-down on how to make them. . they are fairly easy
I love the look of wrapped hurricanes. I thought it might be cute to do with old love letters or poems special to the couple. Or different words for love or something.
dereksbride2be I have been experiencing the same exact thing!! I thought I had found the perfect centerpiece idea but the company that made the bowls went out of business!! I saw something yesterday where they filled a vase with leaves (i'm also having a fall-themed wedding) which I thought was really unique. I'm thinking about doing this and surrounding the vase with votives. However, after reading all of these posts I'm completely unravelled again!!
We are having candle centerpieces as well. We are thinking one footed hurricane vase with a big pillar inside it. I'm trying to decide what to put on the bottom to keep it secure. Its in the fall so sand is out, we thought maybe soil?
We also were thinking of putting the vase on a mirror but then I saw some wood things that could be nice. Once we are sure I'll post pictures of a mockup
How about a grouping of different sized candles? Such as this?

What about moroccan style lanterns set in artificial flower wreaths? I think it looks stunning!

First I would say that you should stick to one color for your centerpieces. I have heard several florists say that the way to make an impact without spending a fortune is to keep things monochromatic. Think of how spectacular any arrangement can be if it's pure saturated color. If you want to use all of your colors, just vary the arrangements, a few orange tables, a few chocolate, champagne and so on. From Marthat Stewart... "
For big-impact table decor on the cheap, consider carnations, which come in so many colors. Long used as inexpensive filler, the familiar flowers have a chic style all their own when clustered in modern, minimalist vases that offset their ruffled softness.
Here's a really simple yet chic table setting. you can find solid color vases anywhere and I love the way the carnations look when they are all one color and packed tightly. Don't you agree?

Thanks girls for all your help, now I am going to have to lose more sleep over which one to pick! YIKES!
Wow! These are some gorgeous centerpieces! I'm having the same idea as you, mine didn't turn out exactly how I planned (who knew roses wouldn't sink!) but everyone loves them anyway! I'll try to post a pic when I get home (yes I'm a horrible employee =) but it's a bit of an hourglass shaped vase about 13" high ($5 at the flower district) filled with slightly pink tinted water and about 7 rose heads ($10 for 25 roses at flower district!) floating on top of the water. Sounds simple but it's really gorgeous and obviously affordable! My original idea was to have the flowers at the bottom and floating candles at the top, but since the darn things just won't sink, I'm doing the whole vase on a mirror with a few colored votives around it! Good luck! Have some fun with it!!
I went to a wedding that had large clear glass vases with fresh cut flowers and branches in it. They hung tea candles from the branches. They used orchids, but here's a pic from an Ehow article on it.

We are using mason jars with a cylindrical vase in the middle with a battery powered t-light. Outside of that we are having rocks, then filling with blue water and then the flowers. It is a beach/destination wedding and once it gets dark the flowers will "glow" from the t-light that will be pretty much hidden from the flower stems. Wish I had a picture to show. But good luck - go with what is comfortable and think different!
Ok, I've been thinking we're going to do something with mason jars! I've only found a couple of pictures and I'll try to attach one. I like the look of the branches with candles hanging from them! There are so many good ideas!!! I totally get why you're losing sleep!!!
well i could suggest this wedsite www.save-on-crafts.com to save you the disguise when returning, they also have some cool ideas with great prices... and if you go to www.projectwedding.com they have sooooo many ideas, just look at the pictures section.
Anyway you can suspend the centerpieces from roof beams? Consider buying those teardrop vases from CB2 & placing a candle in them or flowers - maybe even clear christmas balls with orchids inside or something - then tie fishing wire to them and suspend them from different lengths but close enough to the table. That shoud look amazing and different - talk to your venue first of course.
Also consider an enclosed glass holder but put like crystals or something in them - and use LED lights or battery operated candles - so you get the effect but comply with your venues requirements.
Hobby lobby has tons of beautiful lanterns and such and they're always 40% off. I'm doing all different sizes, shapes, and metal tones of lanterns and other candle accents for my evening wedding.

I seriously am losing sleep over what to do for my centerpieces. I have returned so many things to different stores that I am having to wear disguises in to the stores now!!! LOL!!! No but really I have returned a ton of stuff because I just don't know what to do. I am trying to save money by doing my own centerpieces and I really think I want a candle centerpiece but not your traditional one with the votives and mirror or floating candles in a bowl thing, i want something different!!! Also our venue requires our candles to be fulling enclosed including the flame! Can anyone help with pics?
