I was told by my seamstress and bridal store that I should lose much more weight between my 2nd and 3rd fittings. Has anyone else heard this? They said the last fitting (scheduled 2 weeks before the wedding) is really just to make minor adjustments. My 2nd fitting is scheduled in 3.5 weeks and I don’t realistically think I will reach my goal by then.

julesbeeb: Do you mean ‘shouldn’t lose much more weight?’ If that is what you meant then I’d agree – you don’t want your dress to be have to taken in heaps again at your 3rd fitting, it should be mainly smaller tweaks by then. My alterations lady told me exactly the same thing. How much time is between your second and third fittings?

julesbeeb: Having the final fitting two weeks before the wedding doesn’t really leave enough time for major adjustments, especially in peak wedding season. It does depend on the dress though. I would make sure that they are aware that you may still lose a reasonable amount of weight, so they probably shouldn’t sew things like lace embellishments back on until closer to the day. Otherwise they might have to unpick them all off again, which will add time before your dress is ready. Is there any way you can put your second fitting back by a couple of weeks?
