totally feeling the same way! I am by no means overweight, but i don't feel as fit as i did when I met my SO. Recently I've been thinking the exact same thing about getting back on it before getting engaged!
I am joining this bandwagon! I hate seeing pictures of myself these days, and have gained about 30 lbs since meeting my BF, so I want to try to get rid of those! Trouble is, that requires actually working out, I think. I also like the idea of focusing on something else, i.e. getting in shape, as opposed to pining for a ring.
I too have about 25 pounds to lose and wish I had gotten serious about it before getting engaged. I don't want to go dress shopping until I'm closer to the size I'll be. And we aren't doing engagement pics but if you want to do that, that's something to think about too.
I'm 5'7" and 155, which isn't overweight, and I've lost 18 pounds since September, but I'd like to lose another 20 or so before my wedding in May. Which is gonna be intense. Unfortunately, I'm getting engaged within a week (dear boy is terrible at keeping secrets), so I won't have time to lose weight before we take engagements :(
I'm already engaged, but I will tell you I've been waiting to get our e-pics done until I'm at a more comfortable weight. My goal is to be under 200 lb. for our e-pics - I'm hoping to reach that goal by the end of the summer or earlier; hopefully getting our pics done around August-September in time for STDs in November. I've been losing weight for a year now, and I know how hard it is to stay motivated so please feel free to PM me for support or anything!
I'm happy that there are others out there feeling the same way. It will be nice to support each other as we all work towards our goals!! I'm here if anyone wants to chat about progress and setbacks!!
Oh yeah, similar boat here. We've pretty much decided on a ring, so now it's just a waiting game, though I am suspecting no earlier than early-mid summer because of a few different reasons. My New Year's resolution was to lose 1 lb a week for the whole year, and thus far I've stuck pretty well with it. It's been two weeks, and I'm down two pounds! The hardest thing is just reminding myself that this is a great rate for weight loss, and that losing 5 lbs a week is NOT good...*sigh*
@pharmy: That's awesome! I like your resolution, it is achievable, and that is so important. I might have to steal it (is there such a thing as a post-new-year's resolution?)
Definitely in a similar boat. I know the engagement's coming in the next few months and I'd really like to drop some weight so I look like myself in our e-pics. Ideally I'd like to drop 35 by the engagement and 45 total by the wedding. We'll see what happens. I don't think 35 in 4 months is a realistic goal. 20 would be nice, and more doable. But, yeah, definitely want to shape up for the engagement.
Grr, just deleted my post by accident! Was just saying I think it's a great idea that I would never have thought of - it'd give me 2 years to get in shape and provide some excellent motivation :-)
@Scottish_lassie:Absolutely! A 2 year timeline is much less scary than packing weight loss into a few months!
I'm right there with you ladies! I've been meaning to lose weight for a while now, and since the new year I've really felt like an engagement is on the horizon so I feel like it's time to start getting myself together!
I'd ideally like to lose around around 40 pounds, maybe more if it seems doable. I'm not going to drastically change my diet until the beginning of February when we do our big grocery shopping trip (yay budgets) but I am cutting down on my sodas and drinking more water. I'm also trying to get more sleep, and am doing pretty well so far.
The best thing, like @NowDontLetsBeSilly said, is that it'll give me something else to think about while I wait on that ring!
@windcriesamy: Good luck with everything! I'm sure we can all accomplish our goals if we stick to it!! The key for me has been planning ahead what I am going to eat and making sure I have the right ingredients at home.
How has everyone been doing with their progress?
I have been slowly and not to steadily loosing weight now for a few months and plan to continue until we get our engagement pictures taken this summer. We are not 'officially' engaged yet, but he has allready talked to several photographer friends who about it and I definately want to look super cute for the save the date cards

I am doing the same thing. Knowing that a major event in my life is approaching soon gives me motivation to work out and eat healthier. I want to look my best during the whole process from engagement to wedding to honeymoon. I would like to have engagement pics done really soon after we get engaged so getting in shape pre-proposal is important.
i am right there with you, I too am anticipating an engagement this year and decided that I wanted to lose the weight before any of that and not feel so pressured to lose it between the engagement and wedding. I have been going pretty hard since New Years and losing about 1 lb. per week, my suggestion to you is to either do weight watchers OR myfitnesspal app is free. Both are awesome ways to monitor your calorie intake. I have had trouble in the past with binging but I dont anymore because I eat all the calories I am alotted in a day and at the right times of day. Just remember slow and steady wins the race and keeps it off. Good luck to you :)
I am!
In fact, SO and I made a deal - he can't propose and I can't talk weddings until we have each lost a certain amount of weight. This may seem to be in his favour and people have told us he won't do it because then he doesn't have to propose, but we wants to so... yeah!
I am excited! So far, I've only lost 1 pound (boo!) but I am also limited because of foot injuries.
Yea I feel the same way too...I've gained about 10 lbs since this summer and I'm trying so hard to get rid of it! I want to loose it before we get engaged so I won't be so stressed out trying to loose it during the wedding planning process. I def feel your pain :( Why is so harrrrd to loose weight!! lol
Oh you have no idea!!!!
I have a digestive disorder so I had lost 40 pounds in just a couple of months (not healthy but it is all better now) but then over a year + I have it all back! :(
I want to be around 180 so right now, I need to lose about 50 pounds.
I'm hoping though that with eating really healthy, exercising and just plain sticking with it, I will get there! I am hoping by my birthday (the end of the year almost) that I will indeed have lost that and that my ring won't be too far behind! :)
This is awesome! I'm totally joining in!
I have no idea when my boyfriend is proposing. I was told that it's going to be soon but who the *bleep* knows.
I put on about 5-10lbs since the begining of our relationship which doesn't seem like much. But on a 5'2" frame, it shows. The funny thing is that he has LOST weight since dating me, about 15lbs! Not fair! And it's all because I introduced him to the wonderful world of self-prepared foods, vegatbles and whole grains.
He has kept drinking beer and eating ice cream yet found himself becoming slimmer. I added the beer and ice cream and guess what?? Girls metabolisms are MUCH different than their male counterparts'.
Anyhow, I bought a gym membership. Throughout January I only worked out 2x a week because I didn't want to overwhelm myself with big goals and not end up following through. For this month, I'm adding a third workout per week.
I'm a very healthy eater for any given meal on any given day. It's the TREATS that get me. Where I work, people bring in donuts ALL THE TIME! Yesterday, however, a vendor brought in 2 dozen and guess how many I ate...
ZERO!
I'm so proud
Wow, I sure am Miss Wordy. Hopefully soon I can become Mrs. Wordy (SO is an engineer. I tell him all the time he must get paid by the syllable).
I never thought about the goal of getting slim for engagement pics. I like it!!
Ok I'm done I swear.
Haha that is awesome! My SO is going to be an engineer! :D
He graduates in August (darn summer class requirements! >.>)
Yeah - I too am trying not to have ANY treats or sweets! For the last couple of days I haven't had any! I finally lost ONE pound! I am getting so excited!
I wanted to lose weight before becoming engaged, but unfortunately I just didn't try hard enough. I was 160lbs when he proposed, which is a lot heavier than I wanted to be.
After I became engaged, I finally started to do something about my weight! I started eating healthy and exercising frequently! I'm now a total gym rat, which I never was before, and I love eating clean and healthy! :) I'm 125lbs now and I've gained a significant amount of muscle. It takes time to step in to a new lifestyle, but once you do, you'll feel so much better! Don't be discouraged if it doesn't click right away, just keep at it as best you can! One quote I really like is "No matter how slow you're going, you're still lapping the guy on the couch".
Not gonna lie, I started losing weight this past summer to 'prepare' for my engagement. I felt like it might be coming soon, within the next year or so, and didn't want to feel unattractive. I'm still heavier than you are (and an inch shorter) but losing 25lbs really made me feel better about myself when it did happen. Not that I wouldn't have felt amazing with those extra 25lbs but I felt more confident in photos etc. Now my goal is to lose (minimum) 40lbs before I take engagement photos and at least 10 more lbs before the wedding!
FYI: I'm 188 right now so it's not like I'm trying to be 108, I really am just trying to get down to a healthy weight.
@Booknerd: Alright! Engineer daters unite! It's difficult to lay off the sweets especially if you're tired and/or stressed. But I'll tell you that it felt GOOOOD to conquer the donuts!
Congrats to you ladies who have lost so much! I WISH I could get down that low!
@missjuli: Yes! :D
And omg yes it does!
I'm not engaged yet but my SO said something along the lines (at Christmas) that I need to give hime a year to propose. Ever since he said that i've been starting to go to the gym and watching what I eat. Its also had a positive effect on my SO and he's also jumped on the fitness wagon :)
I actually started working out during a "does he really see a future with me" period of time. My new work out actually lead to him admiting he wants to marry me. Granted the time line associated with it is 5 years but that sure gives me pleantly of time to get in fantastic shape. I'm not trying to lose wieght (I'm 5'9" and 145 lbs) but my goal is to trade some fat for muscle. My long term goal is to get a four pack by the this time in 2017.
I'm so happy to hear that there are so many bees on board!! Sounds like everyone is working hard to accomplish their goals!! Keep it up!! This week I need to kick it into high gear...This last week was pretty bad :S
I'm a newbee but I've been pretty much addicted to Weddingbee for the past couple months (such helpful boards!) But I'm finally stepping out and contributing to this board because I can totally relate (I think it is awesome for us to support each other in our progress!)
My new year's resolution was to lose 1-2 pounds a week (mostly because that is a healthy amount of weightloss per week). And I made the resolution so that I could lose some weight for my brother's wedding which is coming up in a couple months. I'm one of the bridesmaids and I want to feel comfortable and good about how the pictures turn out!
In addition (conveniently) I'm pretty certain that I will be getting my own proposal soon (eek!) and so the weight loss goals are also so I can look/feel good about my own engagement pictures.
I seriously thought I was the only one who would think about losing weight/getting fit during the pre-engagement period for e photos, but I'm happy to see other Bees on the same wavelength as me :)
This girl has been my inspiration and motivation.I started following her and have lost 15lbs with her workouts, diet tips and motivation (she is actually engaged herself). Best part it's all free and you don't need a gym!
Literally changed my life, I didn't think I was the 'type' who could be slim, lean and toned!
Count me in Bees! I posted this on another thread, but as of last summer I was super fit, confident, a Marathon runner for Pete's Sake!...
Then, I don't know what happened. I started partying more. I started eating out all the time. I stopped exercising regularly. The holidays came. AAAAND I went up two pants sizes. Ugh.
Anyways Bees, thank you for contributing to this thread and letting me know that I am not alone! I'm already re-committed to my health and fitness (and dropping those two, pesky pants sizes, slowly but surely!)...and anticipating a proposal this Fall/Winter!
WOO HOO! We can do this, Bees!
Count me in as well, bees! I re-joined the gym in November--have only lost 9lbs so far but am planning to keep it going! I am signing up for a 5K with friends in June to stay motivated. If anyone else is on myfitnesspal add me, I have the same name on there as I do here. Together we will stay motivated while we wait!

Hi Bees!
I've seen a lot of posts re: losing weight and getting fit in time for the wedding. I too have been trying to lose weight but I'm in a slightly different boat.
My goal is to lose weight and get in shape by the time I become engaged! I'm about 5'5 and currently 155 lbs. I've already lost about 20 over the last year and would really like to lose another 20 by the end of the summer. I am still so upset every time I look at photos of myself... My hope is that by the time I become engaged (hopefully sometime this year) I will be feeling healthy and confident. I also don't want to feel pressured to lose all of my excess weight between the time we get engaged and the wedding.
Any other waiting bees out there with words of encouragement or feeling the same way?
