As far as I know there is no exercise that will cause you specifically to lose weight from your tummy. If you're looking to tone your muscles, weight training work wonders. If you're looking to 'lose weight' just try some cardio (running, biking) and eat less calories than your body burns. To calculate that check out http://phord.com/cc
Seriously, the flat belly diet cookbook!
I am a small girl, but needed to kick about 4 pounds of belly bloat (I am a veg, so I am always bloated) I lost 5 lbs and my stomach is SUPER flat.
Look into, it is great. I use it as more of a cookbook than a diet because I don't want to lose anymore, but it is for anti-bloating and foods that are good for your GI track. It may totally help your problem.
p.s. my mother and two friends have lost 10 lbs each in 3 weeks and they all said their stomach feels lighter.
Honestly, I have been battling this for a year and a half now (and to some extent my whole life--I've never been happy with my tummy!) and no workout has worked for me. I was running a ton and working out with a trainer twice a week from May--October and saw no results. Then I started watching what I ate--trying to stay under 1600 calories a day and have FINALLY been getting results. I have either a small yogurt parfait (about 1/2 0% greek yogurt w/ berries and no more than 1/4 cup granola) or a hard boiled egg and toast for breakfast; a small sandwich for lunch (I use the orowheat 100 cal bread) and then just make whatever dinner I would usually make for myself and my FI (trying to stay away from too many carbs or too much cheese) and serve myself on a salad plate or small bowl (easy portion control). I bring a bunch of snacks for work (carrot sticks, celery sticks w/ PB, granola bars (kashi makes some good ones), an apple, a banana, etc). It's working like a charm!!
I used to have a heap of issues with stomach bloating - turned out I have a severe dairy allergy. Since cutting out the dairy (a lot harder than I first thought - there are traces of it in EVERYTHING) the bloating has gone down a heap! Id see if theres a food allergy in there thats causing the bloating?
I also do ab classes at my gym - you certainly cant target one particular area but the classes are good for building up the muscles in the area and when you combine it with cardio you should see some results. Good luck!
Running! I hate running but see improvment in this area when I run. I've struggled with tummy issues since I was a kid; I lost a lot of weight during junior high and kept losing throughout highschool and by college I was super skinny but have always had a tummy. Now 5 yrs after college Ive gained like 15lbs and it's all gone to my tummy ); I hate my tummy. I'll probably have to wear a slenderizer under my wedding dress to hide the fatty pooch!
I have been working hard to shed the weight with cardio and cutting out snacking and carbs. It seems to be working! Good Luck
