I am so excited, I feel like THIS time I’m actually going to do this! 🙂
I started using LoseIt.com on May 14th, the first week I lost 7 lbs (!) the second week 3 lbs, third week 0 lbs, and this week 3 lbs again.
Here’s my backstory: I grew up the skinny kid, then the fit teen who danced and could wear anything while eating whatever she wanted to. I was always heavier than I looked (I pack a lot of muscle for some reason) and I graduated highschool at around 132 lbs, like a size juniors 5/6, and my weight never bothered me because I just cared that I looked okay and felt good. I first started to gain weight when I went on birth control at 19 and my weight went up and down the next several years until I hit around 27 and just steadily gained. Fast forward to this last winter when I realized I was at my highest- 215 lbs- and I realized I really needed to get control over this.
I’ve tried to lose weight different times in different ways the last couple of years but nothing stuck. Even though it’s only been just over 3 weeks, I have to admit, I have never stuck to a plan for this long in the last couple of years on other things. I think it’s just a combo of the easiness of using LoseIt.com and also just my sheer determination to do it this time, lol!! I can’t believe how often I am facing a temptation and I actually don’t even want what’s in front of me (buttery popcorn, pizza, soda, donuts!) because I just know that it will take me over my calories for the day and I know it’s just not worth it. So, I go home and make my low-calorie but still yummy and satisfying whole grain turkey sandwich and eat my huge salad with my yummy low calore dressing and can’t believe how full I am! lol. I think my body is just READY for good food- I switched pretty much overnight from constantly eating only drive thru, pizza, soda, icecream, whenever and however much I wanted, to like 90% only good foods like whole grain low calorie bread, turkey and low calorie ham deli style meat, lower calorie cheeses like string cheese, bananas, LOTS of veggies (i.e. lettuce, baby carrots, cucumbers) and mostly water (with the occasional glass of milk here and there). I still cheat a little- I have a cheat night/day every week where I let myself eat whatever I want be it pizza or a cheeseburger and fries or cheesy chicken enchiladas and rice and beans, or whatever, lol! And I will sometimes still have drive thru during the week, but I know what I should and should not have at the drive thrus that I like and I always log those calories in- I plan for those “bad” meals I guess you could say. And I think doing it this way (for me at least) makes it easier to resist those bigger temptations during the week, because I know that if I’ve been really craving something that week I am going to let myself have it on the next official cheat day, so that gets me through the temptation.
Anyway, I can’t believe how well this whole “eating right and exercising” thing works, lol!! I’m lucky that I have an active job which is basically like working out 1-3 hours a day, so I log that activity in and I’m able to eat more calories those days. But I’m not really doing any more exercising than my job- I can’t imagine what will happen once I get back to running every week.
Okay, sorry for the long post, lol! I just thought people might want to know how I’m doing this! 🙂 Oh, and just for those who are curious, I think LoseIt is very similar to MyFitnessPal, and honestly, I think if I had known about MFP before, I would have started with that instead because I think it has more foods in their logging system already…
