I have been engaged for a few months now and I have never lost a piece of jewellery, I still wear a little ring that I got when I was 7 years old, but I lost my engagement ring in my fiance's house over the weekend. We have turned the house upside down and inside out and it is nowhere to be found and I am absolutely gutted (and I mean, we have checked everywhere - bins, boxes, floors, etc.). I loved the ring, we chose it together, and my OH saved for it for ages. Has anyone else ever lost their ring? And never found it? I know it's "only" a ring and my OH has said that we can get another one, but it will never be the same :(. To make matters worse, we had a bottle of champagne during the weekend, given us by a friend to celebrate our engagement (ironically), I didn't have much but it was strong and went straight to my head (I don't have a great holding capacity for alcohol and don't drink that often) so my memories of the evening it went lost are scanty to say the least which makes me feel even worse. I can't even remember the last place I saw it. I'm just so upset and annoyed with myself. I don't want another ring, I want my ring back :( (and I won't be drinking anymore!)

If you're sure it's in the house it couldn't have gone far! Keep looking and don't beat yourself up about it. I left my wallet on the top of my car a few months ago leaving the grocery store, sometimes it just happens! Are there vents it could have possibly fallen into?

Are you certain you lost it in the house?? If so, it HAS to be there somewhere. Do you have pets? Our cat sometimes hides little things in certain spots so I have to be extra careful. I am not the best at not losing jewelry which is why I never ever take me e ring off. I really hope you find it...I am sure it is around somewhere!!

I really hope you find it.

I once lost a ring at FMIL's house. I lost in in June/July. It had been a gift from my mom and everytime I saw her I had to make excuses as to why I wasn't wearing it.

Then, in December my FMIL was re-arranging the downstairs bedroom and there was my ring! It had fallen between the bed and the wall. I really thought it was gone forever.

Do you have insurance on your ring? You may be able to get an exact replacement since your ring is lost.

Has the trash gone out from the weekend? I would save that as a last resort but you could have thrown something away and had it slip off!  Good luck! You will find it!

Hi, thanks for all your replies. I know I didn't go outside, so it has to be in the house somewhere, but unless it has fallen down somewhere inaccessible and out of sight, I really don't know where. I'm hoping it turns up eventually. Maybe that old adage is true - stop searching for something and it will turn up! I hope so, will be really gutted if it doesn't. He has no pets, so it couldn't have disappeared that way. The bed was stripped and quilt covers, pillowcases, etc. all searched (which was one of my first ideas of where it might be) but no joy! No insurance directly on ring, but could try house insurance if it doesn't reappear. Checked the garbage also as it went through my head that it could have slipped off. Just hope it turns up at some stage! Thanks again for all your suggestions.

Did you wear any gloves? My mom, a jeweler, was just talking about how many girls lose their rings while wearing gloves.

Either way, I'll say the Italian prayer for lost things for you!

I know its gross, but check the traps in the pipes under the sinks, there easy to take off and their purpose is to catch things before they are gone forever! GOOD LUCK!!

@GemJen: Did you do any cooking? Could you have set it down? Could it have fallen under something in the kitchen or bath room or in one of the fridge doors or something? Check in the vacuum cleaner?

Did you check in the bottom of the closets? When I was little my mom lost a ring -- I found it a year later in my closet!

I once thought I had lost my grandmother's ring. I was devasted. Later I found that it had just fallen down behind my desk.

You are lucky in that you know that it's in the house somewhere. I'm sure you will find it!

Oooh, I hope you find it. I hate that sinking feeling. Just keep an eye out on the floors, and be VERY careful vacumming (but if you've got a clear canister vac, then you'd maybe see it if you suck it up??). Best of luck!

do you have a jewlery cleaner thingie you might have put it in?  wadded up in clothes?  stuck to a sweater? wadded up in sheets?  somewhere in the bed?  check the insides of your shoes, boots, and laundry hamper.  do you use a laundromat or have washer dryer at home?  cause other weird places i have found stuff is the washer and dryer.

Check your pockets, especially if you were wearing tight pants. My mom's friend thought she lost her ring and later found it got stuck in her jeans pocket. Also check coat pockets and maybe in your purse.

oh wow, you got lucky.  YAY!

I always figured if you dropped your ring down the drain and you knew it, it would settle down in the "U" part and there is still time to get it. but if you used the sink like normal, I thought the draining water would sweep it away forever.

nice to know that maybe the ring would stay put for a couple days if you didn't know it was there!

Oh no! I'm really sentimental so I don't know what I would do if I lost my original e-ring. Search, search, search! At least you know the general location where you last had it so keep hunting. Good luck!

Wow, I got deju vu reading your post !!! Two months ago I lost my engagement ring and I've had it for almost a year and a half and NEVER been close to losing. I was also drinking and swore I'd never drink again! I lost it on a Wednesday night, noticed it missing Thursday morning when I woke up. Tore our home apart, literally EVERYWHERE, even dug through the trash, ewww! And took drains apart, nothing. My birthday was that Monday and Sunday night right before bed something told me to look in this drawer and what do you know there it was just "glistening" at me. I must have set it on top of the stand and the drawer was barely cracked open and it had to have just fallen in. I am SO happy you found it, I know how exactly how you were and now are feeling. Yay! :)

I lost mine at one point too. I was unhappy with the one I had, we got a new one and then I lost the original. I was devastated. I wouldn't even wear the new one anymore. I finally realized that I did love the old one--it was sentimental and it was the one I wanted (a bad time to come to this realization, I know) Anyway just when I had given up on finding it my then fiance (now husband) was rifling through my computer bag to find a flash drive or something and found it tucked deep into one of the pockets. It had been there all along! Aside from having to have the stones reset because the band was reaaallly roughed up, I have my ring back! Moral of the story: things turn up in unexpected places.

My ring is currently lost but not really as I know exactly where it is...I just can't get to it!  After a party, lots of drinks, took it off to put it away and dropped it in the bathroom.  The silly ring bounces on the carpet, does a triple lutz (apparently) and ends up behind the baseboards of the bathroom cabinets.  It took me three days to realize that there's a tiny hole there behind the baseboard between where the cabinet meets up with the wall.  I used a dental mirror and a candle and now I can SEE that it's there but I can't reach it.  We've tried everything but it would really mean pulling the cabinets out to get to it.   Geez...

@daybyday:  I tried a regular magnet but I dont think gold (its white gold) is magnetic...I'll have to google it.  I also tried chewy caramel on the end of stick...that attracted lots of construction dust but no ring LOL!  I did manage to push it further away so I thought I'd just better stop!

Oh gosh I hope you get it out! Just keep trying! On a positive note, at least you know it's there and not lost goodness knows where! Hopefully you won't have to start pulling out cabinets

Why not try a coat hanger with a small "hook" fashioned in the end or something similar. And YAY for the OP finding her ring!
