Before anyone gets too emotional on my behalf… it wasn’t a very expensive ring to begin with (I’m talking $250 here), and it was a placeholder. Money was tight when we got engaged (and continues to be), so I bought it fully intending to replace it later on, when money isn’t so tight, and make it a RHR in the future.
Anyway, at the start of spring I developed some odd sores on my hands (allergic reaction to a chemical at work, I think), and one of them decided to form right under my engagement ring. I took it off and put it in my purse – or so I thought. I didn’t think about it again until I was able to put it back on, at which point it was no longer where it was supposed to be. I have looked pretty extensively for it, anywhere that I feel it might have possibly ended up, and there’s no sign of it. There’s still a chance it will show up, but I’m not too sure. It did have some sentimental value and I am still quite sad to see it go.
Anyway, I’m not sure what to do now. It was part of a fitted set, and the band will look ridiculous by itself, but rushing to buy the new rings is absolutely not an option right now (money, and it probably wouldn’t ship on time anyway). I have had a few suggestions, and I am thinking about just going out and picking up a higher-quality fake ring, and hoping people don’t notice or ask to see it (not likely!).
Someone also suggested re-buying the stand-in, seeing as I was going to keep wearing it, anyway. It wouldn’t carry the same sentimental value, really, but it would be the closest I would get to having the ring back.
I’ll be putting off making a choice until I can clean my place, car, etc. top to bottom and make sure it’s absolutely nowhere to be found… but please make suggestions, I’m not sure what would make the most sense. Help!

@Sevyn: Buy a stand in! You can use it again (on your honeymoon, working in the yard, etc. Mine was $25) Plus if you find the real thing later on you won’t have two of the same rings, both of which you intent to replace anyway!

Maybe check out o.co and jtv and see if there is something there that you’d like to use until you upgrade? You may be able to find something awesome and spend less than $250
I have no idea what you are looking for, but this would make an awesome budget ring!

@Sevyn: JCPenney has a large selection of amazing looking engagement stand-ins in their costume jewelry section (around $20 like you said). That’s what I’d do!

You probably did this, but… did you check the lining of your purse? I’ve “lost” all kinds of things in there! Also. the bees introduced me to Berricle, and I’m obsessed now. I got my first ring from them today and the ring looks really pretty… they seem to always have a 30% off coupon code floating around and free shipping.. and 30 day returns. I’d get a stand in from there! I also ordered a ring from fantasyjewelrybox.com, and once it gets here I will see if I love it… but they seem very reputable too. Good luck on you upcoming wedding, and I hope your original ring turns up!

Dump your bag out and check the lining for holes. I’ve lost rings in purses before and they’ve turned up months later still in the bag!

I’m going to echo PPs, check the lining of your purse I found a ring I thought I had lost . it must have found its way through a little hole.

Oh, I know how you are feeling! I lost my engagement ring a few months ago. My husband and BIL and I tore up our apartment twice and couldn’t find it. A little over a week later I found it in my oven mitt. I didn’t cook or bake the day I lost it, either so I don’t even know how it ended up there. But I hope you find it somewhere and you most likely will in a very random place! Good luck!!

@Sevyn: I’d probably just buy a cheap one until the wedding and then just wear my wedding band.
Unfortunatley, I did the exact same thing with the promise ring from my Fiance. I’d had it for four years when I lost it. I thought I’d put it in my pocket when I was getting ready and when I looked for it 45 minutes later I couldn’t find it. We’ve searched the house high and low and it hasn’t shown up in the 8 months since then. 🙁 Hopefully you find yours soon!

@mrsmay07: +1 agree. 1/2 carat moissanite for $129. Good idea!
@Sevyn: argh sorry you lost your ering, I agree with the suggestions to check the lining of your purse. I agree with Mrsns07. Moissanite makes a great place holder/ stunt ring. It’s more durable than cz but still a fraction of the cost of an actual diamond. The moissy will last and remain looking good until you can afford the upgrade you said you were planning on getting.
