I like the mermaid gown :D you should set a poll :D love the veil! :D beautiful!
I had the same worry about dancing in my dress - but when I tried on another sample that was closer to my size I felt like I had more room to move. I ended up picking the mermaid dress that I loved! If worse comes to worse I'll just tell FI not to take huge steps with me!
The mermaid dress is gorgeous on you. Don't worry about the guests staring at your belly because a) they won't, they will be looking at the joy on your face and b) that is what spanx are for!
The mermaid looks spectacular on you! Go for it!
it's a tough call. From an outsider's point of view, you look really amazing in the mermaid dress, but if you don't feel comfortable then go for the other one. I agree with changing the first dress into a sweetheart neckline (after this alteration, see if you still want to add straps or sleeves). I like this dress as well. To make it longer you can add a bit of tulle at the bottom or lace (just to give an example check out this dress by Paloma Blanca, Style # 3966)
I'm in the same boat! I have a trumpet dress that everyone thinks is awesome and I agree is beautiful but I feel very uncomfortable in it. Also it's not fitting me right and is requiring extensive alterations. The second dress, I probably passed over hundreds like that one when I was first shopping, it's not my "wow" dress, but when I wear it I don't think about whether my waist looks thick or anything like that. Except unlike you, I am now the (not so proud) owner of both dresses!
In your case, I really really love the mermaid and think you have nothing to worry about as far as your ass etc. That is a fabulous dress and looks fabulous on you. But that's what everyone tells me about mine and I still bought the other one...So ultimately it has to be your decision.

Hello bees i am here to ask for your wise advice over my dresses. Like may other brides here i am hesitating between two dress i seem to like equally.
The mermaid one has adarker tone than the other. When i saw it i had in mind my possible vintage theme wedding but it proved to fit to me like a glove...so i fall in love helplessly.
The second one shows a great attention to details, i like it because of the lace scattered on the skirt, the back of the shirt and the feeling of being very very light.
So, disadvantages on both parts:
1. I am afraid that the mermaid wont allow me to make very large moves(and my first dance is a waltz). I am supposed to dance all night but not all teh dances will require huge steps to make. Its pretty comfortable inlike other mermaids i tried on.
Another thing is that i might got fatter or my stomach can get bloated. My hips are quite wide and i am not very happy with my ass.
But i like it and all the others saythey like it:D>
2. It needs a lot of alterations. I want a sweetheat neckline and straps attached. It is quite short, in spite of wearing it with low heel shoes or no heels at all. but it s very comfortable and i don't have to think all night the ppl stare at my ass or belly. And it hides my moves because i am a lousy dancer.
Both have the same price.
