Okay so i have a SUPER low budget and don't know where to look for a dress. i guess i have an expensive taste in dresses, both of the dresses that i tried on and LOVED and would have been THE ONE were both basically $1000. I cannot spend that much on a dress because thats my whole budget... I saw ones that i like on those Chinese knock-off stores online but i'm scared because i can't try it on first and don't know what they actually look like... any suggestions or thoughts?

Have you looked into David's Bridal and Alfred Angelo?  David's does $99 sales once or twice a year I think.

try to find some bridal stores that are closing in your area. They usually have great discounts since they want to get rid of the inventory. My friend found a dress for $50 at an Alfred Angelo that was closing. Good luck!

The one i found at David's that i LOVED will be like $850 with their big sale its usually $1,150... like i said i have expensive taste its the style CT258, its by Oleg Cassini. I was almost crying (and that is a big thing for me) when i tried it on because it was so perfect but with the lack of funds... and i haven't looked at Alfred Angelo but i will.

Do you have any pictures of the gowns that you have tried on and liked? It would help us help you, if we could see your style.

@cyndistar3: The picture is kind of small, but from what I can see, it doesn't look like it would be that difficult to make that gown. I suggest researching some seamstresses in your area to see what they would charge to make your gown for you.

@cyndistar3: That picture is much better. I still think it would be pretty simple to make. You might not get an exact replica; depending on if your seamstress can get the lace and beading that it being used, but I am sure you could get a gown that would fit your requirements and fit in your budget.

Hey there - take a look at this website, I've seen a bunch of brides here at the Bee looking lovely in these dresses and most of them are a really good price, especially the ones on sale.

If you want an ebay seller - I've only heard good things about April Bridal (Jeff Liu? I think)

And PerfectBridal, oncewed, preownedweddingdresses, david's bridal (or even the section of david's bridal on powd, SUPER awesome deals), even the bee's own classifieds.

I found a seamstress on kijiji to do my wedding gown for 150$ plus the cost of materials. Maybe craigslist, etsy, or even kijiji?

Do you have any bridal consignment shops in your area? My first gown was a Maggie Sotterro that I got for 450. I think it's worth checking something like that out if you are on a budget.

Also, craigslist has good stuff if you are dedicated to looking frequently.

In addition to what some of the other ladies have said, I have found that around this time of year (Nov-Dec) bridal shops are trying to get rid of older style samples. I have found racks of dresses for under $400 and one shop was selling their older samples for $99.  I realize that you would have to add cleaning and alterations of top of that, so you would still be looking at $200-$400 depending.  Another idea - check out dept stores, which carry less "bridal" looks but still have some beautiful white/ivory dresses.

Oh! Also! Do any places near you have bridal shows? I know for the big one around here they have a "gown sale" where you can get samples and end-of-line dresses for a MAJOR discount, from local bridal shops. But it has its drawbacks too - cash and carry, and if they don't have your size you're SOL. But still, maybe it's an option?

If you go over to www.brokeassbride.com, they've been running a feature about wedding dresses about once a week for expensive dresses and then similar dresses that cost MUCH less. I recommend taking a look! There are some beautiful dresses.

well let me tell you, i have heard great things from some of those chinese knock off stores. we actually bought our bridesmaids dresses from lightinthebox. and someone else posted recently that inweddingdress did a really good job.

i would suggest going and trying on dresses, figuring out what style looks best on your and ordering online :)

You also might want to just shop around. A bridal store in my area always has a rack of sample gowns for $99, and that's pretty hard to beat :o).

those are a lot of great ideas thank you everyone! As for consignment shops that was my first thought but i live in a small town an the only ones there were had NO selection. I don't know if there are any dress shows or anything around here but i think ill look into that. I have searched craigslist a few times but theres never anything there either but ill prolly keep checking just in case

Check on the prices of the ones you tried on and liked at pearlsplace.com and netbride.com.  They will at least be cheaper (those aren authorized dealers, not knock offs)  Try davinci, for another lower price brand.  Good luck!

Someone else posted this link a few days/weeks back (but I couldn't find the original post).  Check out Nordstrom's.

The David's bridal $99 sale is also a great option, the Alfred Angelo signature stores are currently offering 50% off samples, so that might be another option.  Don't give up hope, you'll find an affordable dress!

How much do you want to spend? Because davids bridal has pretty great deals. I went there for my slip and saw very reasonable priced dresses. Aside from their $99 sale, they have quite a few gowns that are under $400..

have you tried looking on Etsy.com? there are dresses ranging from less than 100 up to over 1000.. so it depends on how much you ideally want to spend, type of dress.. etc etc.

If there is a specific designer or style you like, don't forget to check Craigslist! I found mine new with tags in my size for just $100, thanks to a google search that had the listing in the results : )

Also, brands such as Allure, Mori Lee, Casablanca, etc. all have dresses in their collection that are less expensive.

I woulc check out bestbridalprices.com. I bought my dress from them. They give you 50% off their "in-stock" dresses. I only ended up paying $300 for mine. AND theyre real dresses, not knockoffs.

David's Bridal should be in your price range.  Also, many smaller botiques should be able to give their median price range over the phone.  Make a list, call ahead of time and don't go there if they don't have a median in your dress budget range.  you should also check out non-bridal specific white dresses from places like Nordstrom's and Macy's.

If you're willing to try other styles, you can also try some not so typical stores, like BCBG or even the dress department in Macy's. They occasionally have sheath-type dresses that could totally double as a wedding dress.

My dress is by Allure and was only around $600.. check out their site, maybe you'll like one of their dresses?!

Maybe try looking at evening dresses.  You add "wedding" to something and it instanly becomes more expensive.  Many evening gowns look just like wedding dresses but at a much lower cost.

If your total budget for the wedding is $1,000, I'd go about this in a different way. I would look at either trying to wear a cocktail dress (there will be tons available post January first so look at sales racks at Macys), or try to see if you could find someone who would lend you a dress. Watch J.Crew post x-mas for sales in the bridal/wedding category.

An additional thought would be to try to find a dress at Goodwill or Salvation Army and have it altered to fit. You would be amazed at the dresses these charities have access to. I regularly find BCBG, Anthropologie, and Jessica McClintock samples available there.

Lastly, rentals. Take a look around your local areas for a consignment shop and see if the owners would allow you to rent a dress for a $100.

Having a small amount of money can be really frustrating, hang in there.

I hate having such a small budget but we are paying for it all by ourselves... I will not give up though i have to have a wedding dress if i spend the majority on the dress so be it... its my day but im hoping to start kind of early and try some ebay ones that i can return if it doesn't work out so i can try multiple ones if i need to

Check events like trunk shows, sample sales, and events like Brides Against Breast Cancer, which sometimes sell really affordable dresses.

I don't know what style you're looking for, but many bridesmaids dresses come in ivory/white. I didn't like all the lacy poofy princessy wedding dresses, and fell in love with a dress that was actually a Dessy bridesmaids dress.  I felt so comfortable in in all night, and I have plans to dye/hem it so my wedding dress won't sit in the closet, it will actually get used again :)  You'd also be surprised how much cheaper the BM dresses are.

The style im going for is kind of princess like but not huge and poofy, the ones i love are a-line. I just was not happy in dresses that just fell... i don't like plain either because theres nothing plain about my personality. I feel bad for wanting such a dress when my budget is so low but i just want to feel beautiful for one day in my life...
