    The date is set for Sept 10, 2011.  We both have done this once before so we are not interested in a big fancy wedding.  We'd rather spend more on the honeymoon.  We'd like the beach wedding but dont want to be in the sand.  We don't plan to have a wedding party, nor do we plan to have full dress and tuxedo wear.  Only family and close friends to be invited.   IDEAS??

    You could rent a cute house on the beach with a great deck and get married there :)

    Where are you located? Santa Barbara California has a beautiful courthouse, and you could all go to a nice restaurant afterwards :)

    If you like the beach house rental idea, I do have a website to recommend. frbo.com  which is a for rent by owner website. I see they have a few nice ocean front rentals in Southern California, you can get by the day. My fiances family rented a fantastic beach house in South Carolina over the summer and it would have been perfect for a small intimate wedding (not the circus I got going on! LOL). If you aren't into the sand, maybe on a deck overlooking the ocean?

    I wish you the best with your wedding plans!

    Thank you all for your ideas.  I spoke w/FI last night.  We are looking into a couple of options, but he did like the house idea as well.  We're going to see how much it would cost to get a venue and compare.  We found some hotels in Laguna that offer what we want.  This idea put us on the right track!  Mid - thanks for the mountain idea, but we really want the sound of the ocean.

    How about a Cruise wedding. You can get married before the ship set sails and have some of your people there, then they leave.. and you are off on a honeymoon. :)

    Also, some of the all inclusive resorts include the wedding and many have some really nice areas on the property to get married.

    Good Luck!

    @keniki:

    FH and I are having reception/ceremony at a restaurant - we bought out the place for the evening... It was about the same price (or less) than other venues. It's small, intimate, elegant.

    We are still looking and brainstorming.  We have a couple of places to see on Friday.  Keep those ideas coming...I'm so bad with this planning thing!  We dont want destination wedding.  We both have kids and want them there for the wedding...but not the honeymoon :)

    I vote for the deck of an oceanfront home.  We did a similar thing on the opposite coast but actually got married on the beach itself and had the reception on the deck.  Ten we stayed the week with our kids for the first of our honeymoons.

    WE DID IT!!!  VRBO.com  We found a nice 4br 3ba home with a nice large patio deck.  Right on the beach, steps from the water.  Owner letting us have it for 2 nights only, instead of entire week.  Cheaper than we thought it would be.  We are so excited.  What a great idea

    @keniki:

    Do you mind my asking how many people you are having? I also love the idea of renting a house for the ceremony/reception but am running into problems finding a house that will accomodate a large group. We're looking at 50 or so. I wonder if a house is out of the question for that many people.

    We rented www.bayfrontescape.com for our wedding because there is grass outside to get married on, but it's still by the water!
