Do you know of anyone with a house big enough to host? You'd really only need 5 tables. This would be something that could keep your costs down the most.
What would you do about your dress and photography?
I think Hudson Valley for 10K but I don't know about 5k. Maybe you can find a restaurant in one of the less touristy towns? I think the Poconos is probably a better bet.
@nycfoodie93: To be quite honest, 5000 is a tiny budget for anywhere CLOSE to NYC. And the venues that you are talking about that handle everything will charge you an arm and a leg for food and drinks. You should look into somewhere that you can cater yourself.. and bring your own bar. Do you know anyone with a nice back yard? I am pricing a wedding for 50 people in Colorado.. and our food budget alone is well over 5000 (Food is also of great importance to us).. and this does not include any rentals or drinks.. bar is another couple grand. For sure look for somewhere you can supply your own caterer and bar!
My budget is also only 5K and our guest list is 160! I did it for my sister who was working with the same budget and I don't know how I pulled that one off. It was an act of God. I have faith He will come through for me too.
We are having the wedding at Mr H's dad house whom has a large piece of property. And Mr H is a manager of a restaurant, which is doing our catering. But what is killing me is the cost for photography.
Good Luck, can't wait to hear how it goes.
I forgot to mention, I don't drink and told Mr H, he has to pay for the alcohol if he wants it there and he agreed thankfully, because I can't afford to dedicate any money to that.
You'd want the place to include alcohol and food as well? I agree with PPs that you'll have to do things separately in order to afford it. I did a standard wedding package 2.5 hours north of the city, and it was $85/pp, and I thought that to be reasonable. I can't imagine getting the price much lower in the vicinity of NYC.
I can tell you where not to look :) I think I disagree with some of the other posters about doing it all ala carte. I've found that it will be more if we do that with a lot of venues and caterers. That said if you rent a picnic pavilion in a park in Queens, Brooklyn, etc. the site fees aren't as bad as in Manhattan and if you do a buffet catered from a restaurant versus a caterer I think you might be able to stay within your budget. Hudson Valley is $ and cost comparable to many places in the city if not more, but I think the comment about the Poconos is a good one especially since PA tax is 6% compared to the NY 8% when picking a venue. Good luck!
My DD's budget is only $3500 for 58. They are skipping alcohol and only having family pics taken by a friend of the groom. The menu is soup and sandwiches. A few coworkers of the groom are cooking and setting/cleaning. We also live in the Midwest.
@nycfoodie93: You will not be able to get this done in NYC, unless you have it at a casual restaurant with a very big private room. Those can be tough to find in the area as well.
This lady did her wedding for 6-7k. She hosted her meal at Becco $50/pp. Maybe this link has some tips.

Hi all,
I'm planning a 50-person wedding on a budget of $5k. In NYC. Impossible. So, I've begun looking outside of NYC. Since I'm not having many people, I want the venue to be small so the party feels intimate. Note: no giant ballrooms! I'm also completely stressed about having to plan everything separately, so I'd love a venue that provides everything already (like catering). Speaking of food, that's my #1, so I'd spend the most money on that.
Does anyone have any venue suggestions? I'd go to the Hudson Valley, or even as far as the Poconos, to keep the budget down.
Thanks!
