Spotting for a few days after your period ends is normal. High estrogen, i.e. an imbalance of prgesterone and estrogen ratios can also cause pre-period spotting. Spotting before cycles is common with Endometriosis, as is high estrogen. No idea of any other things can cause your spotting, I only have experience with Endo. Here’s some info on it if you’re interested:

Having little to no symptoms won’t help you to know if you do or don’t have it. Endo is awesome like that. Some people have Endo and no pain and never even know they have it until they have troubles TTC. Some have excruciating Endo pain and no trouble at all TTC. The only way to diagnose Endo is with laproscopic surgery. Since you only mentioned the spotting I didn’t know if you had any other symptoms or not. If you had lots of the symptoms I’d suggest checking it out, but I wouldn’t worry about it if you don’t have any other symptoms. 80% of women with Endo have no issues TTC anyways, and you’re not having any pain that you need remedied.

I had spotting before my period would start, usually for 2-3 days.  It didn’t mean anything and I don’t have any diagnosed conditions.  I also have ovarian cysts but the doctor did not say it was PCOS.  I charted and used OPK’s and we conceived on my third cycle. I would keep it up for a while longer and see what happens since you didn’t mention any other symptoms really.

@PeachBee:  I was just diagnosed with PCOS.

I got pregnant in APril and miscarried 3 months after, spotted throughout my entire pregnancy, and I still spot at times through my cycle. My RE said that with PCOS spotting is common as the lining of the uterus gets a little confused with the differnt amounts of estrogren we produce and begin to shed at various times.

I spot for 2 days before my period and 3 days after…my RE said this is consistant with PCOS. I was just diagnosed this week, so I dont have much more insight for you.  But just wanted to let you know you are not alone 🙂

I have the same problem. I had laparoscopic surgery to remove the cyst and was diagnosed with endometriosis in the process. My doctor removed the endo during surgery and I’m STILL spotting (heavy spotting, more like bleeding). Now my doctor says it may go away in the next few months as my body heals from the surgery or the spotting may just be normal for me. She says the spotting doesn’t interfere with my luteal phase. In sum, no answers for you, just know you’re not alone with rogue bleeding/spotting.

I know this is a zombie thread but came across it while I was searching the forums.. That I am in the exact same situation as OP..  Spotting for a couple days before and after period.. I just did a progesterone test as well and came back normal (47.7 nmol/L).  Haven’t been diagonsed with PCOS yet but I wouldn’t be surprised.  (Haven’t done all the tests yet).

Just wondering if anyone else had the same situation 🙂
