Hi Magdiela --
If you want to have a real Hawaiian luau, not a cheesy, tiki-tacky one, this site has some great ideas:

They also posted another story about where to get luau supplies on the Mainland:

Hi Magdiela! Welcome to the boards!
Can I ask what you mean by hosting a big engagement party to cut down on the wedding invites? Do you mean that if you invite a lot of people to the engagement party, you won't need to invite them to the wedding? I could be totally wrong, but that is what it sounds like. I just wanted to throw this out there--- in most cases, if you invite someone to an engagement party, that means that you are inviting them to the wedding. The same goes for any shower you might have. You normally don't invite people to either of these celebrations (engagement party or shower) if they aren't invited to the wedding.
I know it might differ in different parts of the country, but I wanted to let you know just in case... I wouldn't want you to invite all of those people to an engagement party and have them assume they are invited to the wedding!
We are doing two engagement parties. One for our families and close friends who will be attending the wedding (the traditional one), and another for our school friends and old friends. We are pretty young so they are aware that our wedding will be small, more like a party with Dj and drinks.
Yay -- congrats!!
I'm doing a vintage Hawaiin themed wedding for my BFF's SHOWER. I got a lot of my inspiration from Wedding Bee Pro -- one of the pros had gone to Hawaii on vaca and posted about it.

I found really cute postcards and invitations and am going to serve pinapple upside down cakes. It sounds like you're having a young party so this might not work but wanted to pass on the info -- good luck and make sure to post some pics!! :)
I have a party package put together... here is the link to view photos

Hello ladies! My other half and I came up with the brilliant idea of hosting a really big engagement party in order to cut down on our wedding invites. We are planning on a Luau Party but i've looked on line for samples and inspirations but everything seems to sweet 16th! We want a fun casual party but with taste! Anyone else doing a luau engagement or wedding?
