lol is he trying to mooch some? Does he bring a lunch or does he sit there empty handed?

Honestly I’d find that super annoying. I’d try to combat it with an easy “It is yummy” and move on (so he gets the hint that you’re not giving in to the pathetic) and if he keeps it up, avoid him during the lunch hour.

haha I’m the same way. I also get this same comment everyday. it is indeed a harmless comment, but when you’ve been hearing it for the past 3 years, 5 days a week, every single day, it does make my eye twitch just a little.

i think it would be really strange if he asked every day what you were eating and every day you ate the same thing lol

This reminds me of my friend at work who’s always bitching that our supervisor (who we have sarcastically dubbed our “fearless leader” since he is 100% useless.  Think the boss from the movie “Office Space”) comes in her office every morning and remarks “ah, yogurt” to the breakfast she eats Every Damn Morning.  Why don’t you just say “Good Morning”? She’s tests him on ocassion by bringing in cereal instead.  Hilariously, his comment never changes, despite the change in her menu.

In your case though it seems like the guy is just being friendly, albiet in an irritating way.  At least he’s not asking you for a bite.  There was this girl in college I used to work with who would ask me for a bite of my buritto every day, then proceed to unhinge her jaw and bite off a good third of it.  I finally had to tell her “no” one day.  It sucked to have to call her out like that, but it was getting kind of ridiculous.

I HATE when people stare at my food and every bite I take of it, so I know what you mean.  I think almost every office has a person like that, lol.

At least he’s not saying it smells bad, right?

I once did the unthinkable–brought fish. Microwaved it. Stunk up the ENTIRE area. Got glared at all day!!!

It’s weird–but dude, i work with weird people. I’m so used to it, haha. My food gets commented on all the time.

Do people eat weird stuff where you guys work?

Our kitchen here has a toaster oven, and I kid you not, this week alone I’ve seen an ENTIRE meatloaf and two baked potatoes in there. The potatoes were in together, the meatloaf was by itself.

Seriously though, who needs to bake a meatloaf in the work toaster oven for work?!

Oy, I used to have a boss that did this, and I am in a small office.  Whenever I’d heat something up for lunch, she’d come out of her little office and audibly sniff around before she came over, “mmm whatchya got today, smells gooood.”  It drove me nuts!  I have always been irritated by people who are so obsessed with food that they have to know what you’re eating and sit there and stare at you.

@Mrs. Meowerson:  they had these HUGE burittos at the student union.  I’d buy one every morning at 10 when the place opened and that was my food for the day.   I seriously survived on vegan burittos for probably a good year in college.

The thought of them now makes me slightly ill.

That has always been one of my BIGGEST office pet peeves. I hate it when people comment on my food. I can’t really explain why either, I feel kind of violated I guess. I also really hate it when people come to my cube during lunch time and want to talk about work. I’m in the middle of a big bite and they’re rambling on about how to approach an account I’m working on. Like get a hint and some manners and come back at 2!!

But yeah I’ve always had lots of coworkers strangely commenting on my food. And staring at me while I take every bite. I used to have an office at my last job and I would close and lock the door while I ate AND hold the phone to my ear, but I still had the same girl EVERY DAY come by and force her way in to see what I was eating. It was SOOO annoying!! Ugh! I mean, I wouldn’t mind as much if she would jsut bring her lunch into my office and eat with me, but she always had an excuse not to, and would still be able to come by to monitor what I was eating.
