@MrsHart2Bee:  Okay. I am on the Lutera-28s. And have been for almost a year and a half. I had a bit of spotting at the beginning but nothing major. I got lucky and the first birth control I tried was a good fit for me (OH! My face is under all those zits! My mood is stabilized! My periods are lighter! Less cramps!)

But. My best friend had to try three different birth controls before she found one that worked for her.

We’re all different. Most birth control pills are different formulations. You may have to try quite a few before you find the right fit. Don’t freak out, but do be very careful when having sex, especially when/if you do switch.

I’ve been on four different versions/types of pill and I did have spotting with one, though it was not Lutera. I was not having a heavy flow like you, but every month I was spotting most days for about three months and I was not happy with that situation. I did switch to a pill that had desogestrel (desogen and then apri) instead of levonorgestrel (so many years ago I don’t remember what I was on) at the recommendation of my dr to stop the spotting…But, desogestrel is associated with a higher risk of blood clots, levonorgestrel does not have this same blood clot risk association. I would give it a little more time though before you switch if you aren’t having any other negative symptoms.

Is Lutera a lower hormone BC?  I’ve tried lower hormone BC twice (two different types) and both times had similar symptoms to you.  When I’m the full strength stuff I get very few symptoms.

I know my lutera-28s are very low dose birth control pills, I’m not sure about the straight lutera or if there is even a difference there.

I was on Lutera for about 6 months before switching to nexplanon (the implant).  It was the first birth control I had ever been on and it did definitely take a while getting used to but I didn’t have the same side effects you’re having.  However, I did get nauseous a lot right after taking it and it made me moody for the first while. The only thing bleeding wise that happened was that my period didn’t start when I started the placebo pills, but pretty much right before I restarted the nromal pills (but I think that is pretty common/normal?).  I think you sholud give it a little longer and see if your body stabilizes otherwise there is no harm in switching to something else! good luck to you and I hope you find what works!

I’ve been on it for about a year. I switched from Yaz after all the scary warnings and haven’t had any issues or side affects.

I have been on the Lutera-28 for 12 years.  It took me a whiole to find the right one, but this one worked for my body.  I had the spotting and the cramps for several weeks when I first started, but nothing like that any more.  EVerything is working here and pretty normal.

My body is pretty super sensitive to medicines, that is why the doctor prescribed the Lutera-28, because it is a low dose.  Its low in estrogen and progestin.
