My FI and I are looking for some really luxurious honeymoon accomodations on a tropical island/beach somewhere. When I think about our honeymoon, I envision a private suite or villa on the beach, perhaps with our own hot tub and a really, really nice hotel. I'd rather go on, say, a 5 day honeymoon that's the most amazing thing ever than a 10 day honeymoon that is lower quality. I'm thinking laying on a beach all day drinking margaritas type of honeymoon- in other words, something completely relaxing and not so much adventurous in terms of locale.

Anyone have any suggestions? We were looking into the W Maldives but for some reason the room rates seemed to skyrocket recently (and considering that they start at $750/night, that's saying something!)

Bonus points if you can keep the cost down.

I have the same idea in mind, and we've decided on the Riviera Maya, just a few minutes outside of Cancun.  Cancun has the BEST BEACHES I've ever been to - and I've been to Fiji, Tahiti, Costa Rica, and Hawaii several times.  We chose the Zoetry resort which is an eco-friendly ultra luxurious all-inclusive.  Take a look at the amenities, and especially the honeymoon package!

Im going to the DR in Punta Cana at the Excellence Resort.  Not much to do around the area unless you book excursions so there is plenty of time to lie on the beach or by the pool.  BTW theres a lazy river pool with swim up suites (thats what we are getting).  My FI's parents. grandma and cousins have been there before and RAVED about it.

FI and I want to go to Matangi Resort in Fiji. It's over $3,000 pp, but that includes 7 nights, airfare from LAX, room, food, honeymoon goodies, and a bunch of different activities. You also have a choice between an ocean view bure, beach front bure, or (my personal favorite) a tree house complete with outdoor spa and lava rock shower. I Googled Matangi Resort and found this website, but there are a lot of sites, so you may find a better deal. If that isn't luxury, I don't know what is.

We're actually staying at the W Maldives in September for a friend's wedding. Even with the "discounted" wedding rate, the rate per night is >$1000 a night.

We went to Tahiti/Bora Bora which ended up costing about $10,000 for flights and hotels. It's pretty difficult to stay at a luxury hotel in Tahiti for less than that, just to give you an idea with regards to cost. If you do go, we highly recommend the Intercontinental Thalasso Spa on Bora Bora. Look into Moorea island because the hotel rates tend to be lower than Bora Bora but with the same special luxury feel. Also the snorkeling is better in Moorea.

Fiji looked just as beautiful as the French Polynesian Islands but were a bit less expensive. Keep in mind, you would probably stay on the beach and Fiji does not offer much in terms of the "Overwater Bungalow" kind of rooms. PP has great recommendations.

I believe many of the all-inclusive resorts run by Sandals or Dreams have very nice rooms with private jacuzzis and butler service for a reasonable price.

Best of luck and feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions. We have done LOTS of research already!

Well the place we went to was pretty amazing. Definitely luxurious, and exotic (if you like tropical). It is a villa in a beautiful private rainforest in Costa Rica. It also included a 2 night stay at your choice of beautiful beach hotels (some w/ juacuzzis). It's an AI, $3,700 for two and it included so much stuff!! www.mytropicalhoneymoon.com.

If you really want exotic, Polynesia is pretty cool. I don't know what Club Med is charging these days, but we spent an awesome week at their Bora Bora club one year.

It may be too similar to San Diego, but I think the Mexican Pacific coast is just wonderful. From what I hear from my friends there, anything not on Baja is safe from the troubles. We love Zihuatanejo. Very laid back, easy going. In town, there is fun shopping, nice restaurants, small hotels and B&Bs, while still having some culture. Nearby Ixtapa, a resort town, is more Americanized. Either way, great beaches abound and the area is gorgeous.

We are going to Aruba for our honeymoon. We are staying at the RIU Palace All-Inclusive for 9 days. I would have never thought about going to Aruba until meeting with a travel agent. It's a beautiful place, with some outstanding hotels.

Punta Cana is the place to be. We're booked at this resort (all inclusive) for the middle of August. This is our first time there but we've heard good things.

We are going to Athens and Santorini for 12 days.  We're staying at the 5 star Vedema Resort that looks out of this world. We got a great deal on our stay through

    www.luxurylink.com

It prepackages hotels with services.  Ie ours comes with 2 80min olive oil massages, one rose petal turndown service, private island tour, and a wine tasting.

we're going to Pangkor Laut, an island resort in Malaysia. It's ultra luxurious - used to be the holiday home of a local sultan and on the list of "1000 places to see before you die".  it's about 3K per person  - we're going for a week.

I've always wanted to go to Hermitage Bay in Antigua. It gets great reviews on Tripadvisor.com. Very private and romantic looking!

We stayed at Maroma Resort and Spa in Riviera Maya, Mexico and it was WONDERFUL. So private, great service, so so romantic and very exclusive. We had private security on the beach and our own beach bed (literally, a bed) every day. They have beach service and the best spa treatments. The chocolate couples massage is to die for!

If you are going to stay in the states go to Marco Island, Florida.  Nothing can explain it.  white sand beaches that are like powder, crystal clear water, perfect weather, great restaurants..plenty to do! Romantic, with tons of hotels to pick from from the Marriott and Hilton to renting a private house all on the beach! I have gone there for 23years and remember it raining and being crappy weather twice.

    PLUS ITS AFFORDABLE!
