Hi Bees: I’m having a destinatin wedding, and although the hotel does have a spa which offers a makeup application, I’m leary of using that because I won’t have time for a trial, and if I don’t like my look, I may have trouble fixing it on a rushed schedule that day. So, I’m likely going to have a makeup lesson, and purchase all new, higher end stuff (versus the bonne bell and rimmell I usually buy.. haha). I’m thinking MAC because their counter seems less crowded, but Sephora has a better selection. Thoughts?

haha.. and in “related topics I see “Sephora or MAC…?” whoops. I’m lazy. Sorry 😉 (Sill would like fresh opinions though).

When I’ve gotten done up at a MAC counter I feel like they always over do it or use crazy colors and I don’t really trust that people at Sephora know what they’re doing. I’d hit up up a higher end counter at a department store (Laura Mercier, Bobbi Brown, Chanel), buy some of their make up and then go pick and choose at Sephora based on what you learned.

I prefer MAC, but that is because I have gotten alot of attitude from the ladies at Sephora here. The Sephora shop here has the rudest and most snotty stuck up staff I have ever seen and the MAC counter has the sweetest ladies. They did my makeup for my wedding day and it was one of the best things I did on my day.

I have never gone to MAC, but I recently “converted” to higher end make up at Sephora. I love their makeup! I like that they carry more than one brand. I went for an eye trial – I won’t be doing exactly what the girl did, but it helped to see what she did, and get ideas for what I want and don’t want. She also walked me around the store and gave me suggestions for setting spray, etc.
Some things you should buy:
Urban Decay setting spray
face primer (forget the brand I went with)
eye primer – just bough Sephora brand (probably not necessary since I also have the face primer)
I have 3 eye shadow colors: 2 are Sephora and 1 is Smashbox

@LGenz: No LM or BB in my city. I could try the Chanel counter at a department store though… thanks for the suggestion 🙂

I should also say, I’m sticking with my usual Neutrogena foundation and powder, and Maybelline mascara

@tksjewelry: How much did it end up costing for MAC to do your wedding day makeup? For everyday wear, I don’t wear as heavy foundation or as highly pigmented colors as MAC’s line, but I do love me some MAC and I know it’s what I’ll wear on my day!

I prefer MAC because the salespeople are nicer, at least in my experience. Follow your gut and go with whichever you like best.

I love both brands, but to me Nars is the best 🙂

@MissNoodles: Sephora -just because they have makeup forever HD and it’s the best foundation for pictures. I took a free lesson there for my engagement and the condition was that I had to purchase products worth of $50. The result was amazing and I am still using the makeup forever HD along with some other products that I bought – I love it.

If you want someone who is a makeup artist go to Mac. Of you want the variety and selection go to sephora. I used to work at sephora and I can tell you it’s a great store however I worked with a lot of girls who really didn’t know how to apply makeup. Mac has everything for everyone, From natural looking to drag lol. Mac also doesn’t test on animals :), which is a plus in my eyes.
