I saw this on my Macy's registry the day after I did the registry. What I think is that maybe Macy's adds coordinating items that "go with" things, like dinnerware items to go with the set you ordered. Kind of sneaky. I took some stuff off and meant to ask about it, but I forgot.
That IS really sneaky. The worst part is, I'm going to have to return all of it. :-/ We didn't register for a ton of stuff, just because we have so little room!! Who needs two sets of Corningware, anyway? ;)
I read that with Target registries, some brides were seeing random things show up on occasion, but it was because the buyers paid for their personal items also in the same transaction, and they somehow got added as "purchased" on the couple's registry list, even though they obviously weren't wedding gifts (think baby diapers and potato chips and paper towels, etc.). Maybe that's happening?
I don't think so... unless someone is buying themselves a Lenox Jubilee Pearl cake server? :) (We registered for the toasting flutes, but made a point NOT to register for the cake server... oh well; we get it anyway! ;)
If one of your guests buys something from your registry as well as additional gifts for you that you didn't register for, it will show up as fulfilled on your registry list (to inform other guests so they don't purchase the same off-registry items). If you don't have many items on your registry, guests will often buy you extra stuff your didn't ask for. I guess you can just return it for stuff you want.
They told us at a Sip and Scan that if you add something they go through and add the rest of the set for you, although we did not experience that.
lol @spaniel -- you mean you DON'T buy yourself fancy cake servers all the time while you're out shopping at Macy's? :)
The returns process was really easy for me at Macy's, so hopefully you won't have too much trouble. Unless these people are going to give you the cake server in advance, and expect for you to use it during your reception or something...
I don't have a Macy's Registry but that's really wierd and a little rude of them to add things you didn't register for. You obviously didn't register for them for a reason, you either don't have room for it or don't need it.. It just makes more work for you having to return it all.
@jhphi: My shower is today, so I'll find out! I'd bring it back, anyway, though, because I'm a brat like that. ;)
@msmonicka: Seriously. I try to feel gratitude for all the gifts that we get, but I know I sure as hell wouldn't go off registery for anyone! If there's nothing left that I want to give, everyone accepts cash. ;)
I have a Macys and Bed Bath registry. The Macys one hasn't done that to me and I didn't register for all the pieces to my set. My Bed Bath registry has done that I put a set of sheets on there but yet another set appeared in the same shade different brand so I think it is someone who bought the item and they added it for me so I don't duplicate the item.
@vintage: Yes, that is what happened, apparently. She had gone to buy the flutes but they had just been purchased, so she got the server, and Macy's went ahead and added the purchased item to the registry. I actually really like them in person, so, WHAT the heck, I'm keeping them. ;) The second set of Corningware, though... that was my mom. ;) I'd think if anyone wouldn't go off the registry for stuff we don't actually want (or near-duplicates of items that we did want that had already been bought), it would be my MOM! Jeesh!
YES! totally annoying. We purposely registered only for the fine china pieces we'd use, and good thing we checked... All kinds of gravy boats, sugar and creamers and random bowls were added, PLUS, (12) of a 5-piece set. WTF? Thank goodness we caught it.
It also DIDN'T add the luggage we scanned in store, even though it was confirmed on the scanner. Pffft.
This happened to us at bed bath and beyond. The funny thing was that some of the extras they bought weren't for us (coffee filter and box fan), but some of them were (bag of chocolate for the fondu pot they got us).
Yes, but not at Macy's. At another store, we apparantly had a single place setting of silverware on our registry (just one fork, knife, spoon, etc.) that didn't match the silverware we picked out. One of our guests bought it for us, too. I guess it's for those nights when my FH is out of town and I am eating alone? :)
For my registry, if someone bought something that was on my registry and something that wasnt, and purchased it at the same time telling the cashier it was on the registry, it got added. My aunt and uncle purchased something off our registry and at the same time bought an ornament and something else and it showed up on my registry as fulfilled. However, sometimes it showed on up on my main registry and sometimes it only showed up when I looked at the "thank you" portion of it where it shows you what each person bought.
Yes - This happened to us also, the sales woman said things "piggy back" on to the registry and then had the audacity to laugh because the Pyrex set we scanned for, had a measuring cup 'piggy back' with it - but the set included a measuring cup!!!
Every time we go to Macy's now I double check the list and make sure they remove the 'piggy backed' items.
Personally I think this is such a shady practice.
I was so dissapointed with macys that I deleted our registry and made one at pottery barn instead. Pottery barn has been a breeze to deal with and they are so nice about adding things we want to buy to our registry so we can use the 10% completion discount. We have used it on 3 sets of sheets!
I just experienced what @naangel55 mentioned this weekend. I was buying gifts for a friend's wedding and said it was from her registry. I was told everything I was buying HAD to go onto her registry, but I was buying other items in order to use a coupon (so many macy's coupons!). I refused to break it into 2 purchases and forfeit my coupon so they called the bridal dept. Turns out you can walk your receipts and the registry info right over the Birdal dept and they'll take off those items you bought to keep (not for the bride). I was doubtful but I checked later that night and the items I bought were not on her registry!
I didn't want the bride to think she was getting items she didn't register for and wouldn't receive! When in doubt ask Macy's, Ok so how CAN I do this? They'll usually figure out a way!

I was doing a quick registry scan and there are a couple of things that showed up on my Macy's registry (as fulfilled) that I never put there. Is it possible that people are buying coordinating items (with something else on the registry, maybe?) so that Macy's is just adding it on?
