Great episode, quite moving. One small criticism is that they are getting a bit too heavy handed with the match cuts (tapping of flipflops to dripping faucet).
Although Pete can be such a wiesel, I did feel sorry for him. He is so lost.
Would NEVER have expected a Lane-Pete showdown!
Loved seeing more of Ken and his wife. It’s nice to have some well-adjusted characters around. 🙂
I still think Megan is such an underdeveloped character. Remember Rachel Menken, Faye, even Midge? In one short scene you got such a STRONG impression of who they were.
I feel with Megan we just have a list of qualities rather than a fully realized character.

This was a fantastic episode. I HATE Pete, but I think I love to hate him. I also really like Trudy. I love that she’s such a stereotypical mid century mom.
I really want more Betty. I find her so tragic.

Aw, man. That fight with Pete and Lane was the weirdest and best thing ever. That’s not something I ever thought I’d see. Also, afterward, that kiss with Joan?
This episode was probably my favorite of the season so far.

I don’t think Don and Megan will last past this season.

Best episode ever. Don closing the curtains so Pete and Lane could fight was priceless. I do feel badly for Pete, though. I’m actually getting tired of Betty. She’s always unhappy, and nothing seems to change that. I would love more Sally.

@pinkandsparkly: I feel sorry for Pete. In the scenes with his parents you can see that he was never loved. He is desperate for approval, to prove himself somehow…
Of course he deals with this emotional damage in awful awful ways, but I pity him anyway.
Trudy is awesome! She needs to get past those 50s skirts though…don’t they get fashion magazines in the suburbs? lol 🙂
@scottsouth: I know! Joan handled the kiss really well. Loved seeing her back in the office.

@MrsElopement: She is signed on for season 6 :-/

You’ve got to hand it to the actor that plays Pete – he’s amazing considering he can make you simultaneously want to kill him yet still feel sorry for him.
I’m still not sure what to think of Megan.
Loved getting to see more of Ken. Thought the bit about no one remembering his wife’s name was amusing – was I the only one that got excited when I realized she was played by Larisa Oleynik? Took me a few minutes, but I love her! I also love that Ken is getting back at Pete by writing a story about him. I hope it gets published under the new name!
And as always, I heart Joan. Anyone else notice she was still wearing her engagement/wedding rings? I guess she’s not telling anyone that she kicked her husband out.

@misspeanut: Oh yeah, the actor who plays Pete is excellent!
I wonder when Joan will eventually let people at the office know about her marriage? And when she does…I wonder how long it will take Roger to pounce.

@arielle They might keep them together, but I have a feeling something big is going to happen. Something explosive.
Is Pete reminding anyone else of a first-season Don? Someone who seemingly has everything and thinks he has nothing?
This season is awesome. I’m loving it so far.

I LOVE MEGAN.
I am like, the only one to say this, but I think she makes Don a better man. That being said, I also think that there is a big story that we are not seeing. She obviously knows about Dick Whitman and we missed their wedding and her probably meeting Betty. I want a Megan and Don backstory!
Pete and Lane fighting… oh there was an uproar in my apartment over that. We were just soooo excited for it.

@ohmybears48: I think at the point Don met Megan he was really wanting to be a better man. He was sick of the alcoholic stupor, the whores, all of it…
I do like seeing how more modern their relationship dynamic is. She isn’t submissive.

I love Megan, too! I also see how Pete mimicks Dons previous life/marriage. Pete always wanted/ wants Dons approval and felt Don would be proud of him for slerping with the hooker. ..I loved Dons response that if he had met Megan first there wouldnt be a second!

Trudy was spectacular during that dinner party, leading the conversation, seeiming upbeat and interesting and just generally happy and amazing. At least when Don was with Betty, you could see that Betty was a monster and you somewhat understood Don’s reasoning for drinking and carousing (though he probably would have anyways), but with Pete, he really does have everything both at home and at work. He just needs to feel like he’s an alpha male when he’s not. He wants to be Don in all the ways that Don doesn’t want to be anymore and somewhat isn’t with Megan.
Also, the casual and offhanded manner in which Peggy and Ken’s pact was introduced pretty much assures us that it’ll come into play later. That will be interesting. My friend, after the season premiere bet that Megan would have Peggy’s job by the end of the season, and while I doubted it, if it does happen, I don’t think it’ll be because Megan’s got any animosity toward Peggy as much as she does this very stagnant 50s attitude to the whole office that refuses to change.
Relatedly, who else was so sad that Don wore that hideous 60s jacket to the party instead of the nice 50s suit he had on at home? I think the first time I noticed Don wearing a non-matching sport coat instead of a suit was about a season or two ago when he was out on a date with some lady at a restaurant at night. I don’t even know who it was, I just remember being so sad because he wasn’t wearing his usual fantastic suit.
