I think they are just trying to land the sale. One of my girlfriends chose a Maggie Sottero gown and it arrived in approx 4 months. That said, strange things can happen, so if it's "the dress" then I wouldn't wait to long to order. This way if there is a problem, you'll have some time to straighten things out.

I agree, they are trying to land the sale. I was luckily able to find my gown (Paris Royale) at a an authorized dealer that had it in stock and way cheaper than I could find anywhere else! They other shop I was going to buy it through (but didn't because they would have charged $200 more) said they needed 4 months.
I ordered my dress 6 months in advance. The store told me Im just in time making it bc it takes about 5 months to arrive. BUT, the dress came in after 2 months! I have the dress in my room for a few months now.
It's alwasy better safe than sorry, but i am told that 6 months out is about the avg time you should order the dress. But, if you found THE ONE, why wait? If you want to look around more, then you have time!
Good luck!
They told me I should order at least a year in advance "seeing as it was designer" - I didn't have a year, and ordered it on chance.... and had it in my hands about a month later...
I ordered mine a month and a half ago, and was told to expect it at the end of December, which would be about 5 months. I haven't gotten it yet, so I can't tell you the actual time...
I ordered my Maggie on June 13th, and she arrived on September 12th!
Only 4 months for me!
My wedding dress was Maggie and I was told by the salon I ordered from that Maggie's standard order time to avoid the rush charge was 6 months out from the wedding date. I ordered mine 5 months out and had to pay the charge. Yes, they do often come in ahead of time, but that was still the policy of Maggie. HTH!
Whatever the designer, I've heard of manufacturers sending the wrong dress or the wrong size. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but if you're sure that it's the right dress, why wait? Better to order it early and leave yourself plenty of time in case they make a mistake and you have to send it back.
I don't have experience with Maggie specifically but...
When I ordered my Judd Waddel last Nov. they told me it would take 8 months (which I thought was crazy) and it has now been 10 months and it is still not in!!
If the Maggie is what you want I would just order it so you wont have any worries.
I ordered my dress in September and they called me in February when it came in, so that's about 5 months. That being said, I've heard that it also depends on what time of year you order because they're made in China and certain times of the year there are holidays that slow production down (or something like that). I agree that if it's the one just order it to be on the safe side! Which Maggie did you get?
I ordered my Maggie (Sirena) on August 16... obviously she's not here yet. My wedding is May 16, 2009. I just looked at it as one more thing off the list.
It took 5 months for me--I ordered mine, Grace, in mid-January and it arrived mid-June. But I also ordered a petite, which they said would take longer than if I were ordering a more "average" size. Personally, I was glad to have it in with a couple of months to spare (my wedding is late October)
Another reason to order your dress now is because designers often discontinue designs. The dress I originally wanted was discontinued before I had the chance to order it... You could probably still find it through websites, but if you have you heart set on a certain boutique too, it would probably be best to just order it!
When I ordered mine, the shop was able to check the stock at the Maggie Sottero factory and determined that they had my size and color already made. So I got mine in about 5 weeks. Yes. Weeks.
I chose Adelaide. I'm going to order soon, I just thought I'd check into the "average wait times". :)
Wow, 5 weeks. I wish the shop I'm going to could do that. I'm sure they'd charge me extra for checking. haha, no I'm just kidding.
I ordered my dress, the Victoriana, in early January and the shop had originally told me it would come in early June. It didn't come in until the last week of July, two weeks before my wedding.
I ordered my Maggie in June and they told me it would by March at the latest. My wedding is in May so I am comfortable with that time frame.
I haven't yet ordered my Rhianna Royale, but I am sure to do it asap. I have heard of brides who get the wrong size in months before their wedding and having to buy an off-the-rack dress. I chose my dress a year and a half before my wedding and am nearing the one year mark. I want to give it extra time to be absolutely sure. Plus, my fiancé's grandma has her heart set on keeping it for me. I can't wait to get my dress!
I ordered my Maggie 'Mia' in early October and just found out it is in a couple of weeks ago which is just what the store had told me. In total it took a full 6 months.

How far in advance of your wedding date did you order your gown? I'm wondering if I have a little bit more time before I order mine. My wedding is May 2, and the dress store keeps saying I need to get on it. Do I really HAVE to order this far out (without paying a rush charge), or are they just trying to land the sale?
