I just bought my dress!!! I'm sooo excited - I think it's beautiful! It's the Gatsby by Maggie Sottero, and I have to wait until January to see it again. Is anyone else wearing this dress? Do you have pictures of you in it? I'd love to see the way real women look in the dress (I'm not a fan of the model/styling on the site).
it's so pretty! i love maggie dresses, i'll probably end up getting one!
I love Gatsby! I fell in love with after I had purchased my dress. I made my MIL force me out of the bridal shop so I wouldn't try it on. As beautiful as it is, it wouldn't have suited our wedding. And I do love the dress I wore.
But the Gatsby will always have a little place in my heart.
@mrsdouglas - me! and a few others, http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/any-2011-brides
That is a great dress! I'm not wearing that one, so I can't help you there but I think it is very beautiful. I love the lace! Gorgeous!!!
Thanks for the well wishes!! Not sure how I'm going to wait for 3 months to see her again..
I bought that dress :) I love it. Mine is ivory with pewter accents. Here are some pics, I had to cut out my face incase the fiance sees them but you get the idea. Hope this works!
@projectwedding13: Wow I think it looks better on you than on the model! I'm not just saying that either, it looks great!
I have to agree w/ mskalinin, projectwedding13 the dress looks WAY better on you than the model :)
I also wore a MS dress and LOVED it!
@projectwedding13 - gorgeous!! thanks so much for reminding me what my girl looks like :) I'm also wearing the ivory with pewter. unfortunately, the shop where I got the dress only had the champagne/gold dress, so I haven't even tried on the ivory one! here's hoping I like the way it looks...lol
EMILYM2010 That is too funny because yesterday I went to get my bustle done on my Maggie Sottero Milana and decided that for the reception I wanted them to add some kind of halter to the dress so I wasn't constanly yanking up my dress.
They happen to have the straps from the gatsby in the back in the same exact color as my dress (champagne with light gold) and they looked almost exactly like my Milana.
I am so excited and I love your dress!!!
Let me try again, the straps weren't actually attached they were just laying there so they will be set a little further out and they will snap in and hook around the neck, thanks goodness for the gatsby!
@dereksbride2b - how fun that my dress could help! you look absolutely beautiful in yours :) You must be so excited - you're so close to getting to wear it for real!
@Emily, The store didn't have my dress in Ivory either, so I only got to try it on in the champagne/gold, and hoped that I liked it!! I was really nervous for those three months, looking at it every day on the MS website hoping it would look good on me in those colors!! The store told me they ended up ordering it in ivory/pewter after they saw my dress come in because they thought it was so pretty.
Don't worry you'll love it! My pictures make it look much whiter than it actually is, it looks just like the picture!
@project - you read my mind! the only pictures I've seen are the model's and a few pictures that are very bright/overexposed, and the dress looks soo white! I loved the gold color because it felt a little softer/more vintagey, so I'm really hoping I don't lose that with the ivory. so glad that you had the same experience I did, and love the dress!! my countdown continues...
That dress looks so beautiful on both of you ladies! Congrats to all of you for picking a fab dress. :)
EMILYM2010- I am so excited! I am not sure what I am going to do at work or at night when i am not going to have to plan this wedding!!! I guess it will be baby making time!! HA!!
What color did you get your dress in? Your dress has so much beautiful detail on it. I think our two dresses are timeless. If I ever have a daughter (which i really want boys) but....I would love it if she wore my dress. I feel with the way ours look they could be worn 30 years from now.
@dereks - my dress is ivory with pewter beading, same as project's. I loove the detail, and the vintagey appeal - I definitely agree that our dresses are timeless.
What a beautiful dress!
Congratulations!
You can never go wrong with Sottero!
Oh wow! You ladies look gorgeous in those dresses!
My dress is the Gatsby too! Mine is in champagne/light gold with pewter accents and it's arriving on Monday so I'm totally nuts right now! Have had second thoughts because it's been so long since I tried it on and I kept asking myself if I really looked as nice as I thought I did or if I remembered wrong. It's hard to find pictures of real brides wearing the dress, so I'm so glad Projectwedding13 has hers up here!
Projectwedding13: If you don't mind me asking, what size is your Gatsby? I'm 5'10 & I ordered a size 10 despite never having tried it because the sample was a size 8 and it was too snug!
Princess Panda: Sorry I never have time to get online anymore! It's a size 8, I thought about getting a 6, which is what they told me to get, but I didn't want it to be too snug as well. So I bought a size a little bit bigger, and once you tighten the corset correctly it fits perfect, I barely have to do alterations, just the straps shortened and a hem! Hope your dress fits you well! GL!
I loved this dress so much! Its so vintage! These are a couple of my bridals
@alittle - your bridals are gorgeous!! I love to see my girl in action :) question - did you end up bustling the back for your reception/dancing, or did you just deal with the train in the back? I really don't like the idea of a bustle, but I don't want to be tripping over the dress (or have others do so!) all night.
@Emily,
You might want to do a bustle if you're going to keep the train long, since it's sheer material it will tear very easy if anyone steps on it or if it catches on anything. I'm planning on cutting off all of the train of the underneath dress and have the train be completely sheer, that way the bustle isn't so heavy.
@projectwedding: thanks for the advice. that totally makes sense, but I'll have to think about it. I'm having the dress shipped from out of state, so I'll have to do the alterations on my own (ie find a good seamstress as opposed to getting them done at the store). that added to the cost means I was hoping to not have to get too much done (of course, we'll have to see how the dress fits when it arrives next month!). I like the idea of removing some of the material so that the bustle isn't too 'bustly' though :)
I just tried on and will purchase the Gatsby in ivory with pewter accents. It's gorgeous -- the perfect blend of vintage and modern. I'm curious to know what folks have done with the bustle. Does anyone have pictures of how they did theirs? I'd love to see because I'm having a hard time imagining it.
Thanks!
@jnovako,
I don't have any pics of the bustling yet, I'm not planning on having mine altered until February. I am planning on doing a low bustle, maybe just above or below the back of the knee. The lady at the dress shop put it there and it looked fantastic and kept the vintage look. As I said in the previous post, I'm cutting off the 'dress' train and keeping the actual train completely sheer since its such a heavy dress, I'd hate to have a heavy bustle as well. Hope this helps!
I still love this dress! And it really does look better on real brides than it does on the model.
I loooove MAGGIE SOTTERO! that woman knows how to design a wedding dress. Your dress is fabulous.
@projectwedding13
I would love to see what this looks like when it's done! I just got mine ordered, and I won't have it until April, so there won't be a lot of time for fussing (our wedding is May 15).
Thanks!
So the ship date for my dress (from the manufacturer to the store) was Dec 28, and I'm trying to wait for what seems a 'reasonable' amount of time before calling excitedly to see if it's in! Unfortunately, the store is in MI (I'm in DC), so then I'll have to wait for them to ship it to me! Will def post pictures once it's in!
Looks like I'm gonna be a Gatsby girl too! I was leaning towards the Joanna or the Anniston but the salesgirl suggested I try the Gatsby. It was probably the 25th dress I had tried on so I really had no expectations of liking it. I shocked myself when I burst into tears! Simple, classic, elegant, with BLING...it has it all! I've chosen ivory on ivory and decided to ditch the sash and the sleeves to keep it simple.
I'm so glad you girls have posted your gorgeous pictures of your dresses! I totally agree that the picture from the website doesn't do it justice. I'm having trouble accessorizing now. Does anyone have suggestions for shoes, veils, jewllery? I love the sexy styles of Guisseppe Zanotti shoes but find them a little expensive...anybody know an alternative?
I went in for alterations last week and I can pick it up February 26th if anyone is still waiting on pics for the bustle. I ended up going with a bustle a little bit higher so that it wouldn't drag on the ground. Will post pics of this sometime after next Friday. Hope everyone else's gatsby alterations are going well !
@project - can't wait to see the pics!! Funnily enough, I'm going in for my 2nd fitting on the 27th, and I believe my bustle will be done as well! Will try to post pictures as well :)
