Has anyone else purchased/tried on the Maggie Sottero Jenna dress? I was originally only trying on mermaid/trumpet style gowns, tried on this dress on a whim, and ended up purchasing it- now I'm having second thoughts!!! I really like the way this dress looks on the Maggie site, but on me it sort of fell flat (granted it was very wrinkled), it seemed like it didn't have as much tulle, etc. underneath to create volume like on the Maggie site. Has anyone else noticed this? Would you suggest a hoop or crinoline under this dress? I want my dress to make a statement, which is why I was only looking at really different mermaid styles, and as is, this dress is giving me major second thoughts!
Any thoughts/ideas/suggestions would be much appareciated!
Ironically, I tried Jenna on today! It was a dress I never had any desire to try on before, and on a whim too I was thought "hey it's different!" I ended up falling in love with it, and now it is has made me very confused! It was very figure flattering, and I felt like it was different without being over the top!
I can see what you are saying about how on the Maggie site it looks much fuller, the one I had tried on was full but you could tell it had been around and looked a little limp.I'm also only 4'11" so it was hard to get the full effect on my body! I even went back and looked at the pictures I took in it and it is 100% not as full as it is show on the Maggie site,because let's face it they can do whatever they want to make that dress look as good as they want! If you want I can send you my pictures if it will help you ease your mind. I am sure you could wear something underneath to achieve the volume you desire if you wanted it to be fuller.
Don't have second thoughts though, it is SUCH a gorgeous dress not matter what fullness it has, and you fell in love with it for a reason so just stick with your gut! Think of how beautiful it looks on YOU!
In some of my other posts I have me in the dress (it's my dress too) and I love it...it has just enough poof for me, anymore and I probably would not have bought it actually..and I def. think it makes a statement.
I am a Jenna bride, and I LOVE it. I think it is elegant and yet fun. I will be wearing a hoop under mine which fluffs out the skirt a bit to make it fuller and also keeps all the fabric from catching between my legs when I walk. I think it is the perfect amount of fullness and definitely makes a statement! It is a gorgeous dress and you do not see a lot of styles that are similar to it. Check out this thread - it has pics of me in it wearing a hoop with it - scroll down for a few close-up pics. greenek2 posted a pic of her in Jenna on that thread as well. FYI - I am 5'3"ish and the sample I am wearing is a size 10. Hope that helps!

This is my dress too! I never saw it online until after I got home from trying it on. I actually like how it isn't as poofy on me as it is in the picture, it was a little too much for me. I'm sure they could add some kind of crinoline to it if that is what you're going for, but I think it's perfect (for me) just the way it is.

You all look so beautiful in this dress! I'm 5'9", size 4, and I definitely want to add some "poof" to this dress. Any reccomendations on hoops/crinolines and where you found them?
Also, what kind of bridesmaids dresses have you found? I want my girls and I to look like we fit together (not match though), but haven't found anything even remotely close.

I think they add loads of crinoline when they take the photos to promote the gowns. I have a different Maggie that my daughter didn't end up wearing, and it does not look at all like the photo IMO, except if you look at the detail scallop and beading on the bodice. That is why I don't like to say which one it is in the classified section, because I think it looks much better in person, than on the Maggie website!!! Oh, and this gown has loads of crinoline underneath, but I am sure they really ramp that crinoline up for the photos!!
I am wearing a hoop with mine - I tried it on with the hoop as well, and I loved it! It added a bit of poof without being WAY too much, plus it keeps all the fabric off my legs so I don't trip on my skirt. I'll post the pic here so you don't have to find the thread again. I got my salon to include a hoop when I purchased my dress!
I haven't looked much for bridesmaid dresses and will be leaving it mostly up to them to decide - but I do want knee length, cocktail dresses in the dark purple color that I love (and as close to the same fabric as possible). Other than that I don't care too much!
This is my bridesmaids dress..color and dress, and my dress is above I am not wearing any additional crinoline or anything. I like the poof as is, and I am wearing a 90" veil.
This is my dress too and I love it!!! I tried mine on with a hoop, it was a hoop i hadnt seen before it was straght and didnt flare out til quiet far done but it made such a difference. It is one from the maggie sottero shop. ( in sydney australia)
I didn't have anything on when I tried mine on, and as far as BM dresses... We haven't started looking.
Its stunning with or without the hoop :)
Has anyone decided on their accessories?
I have sparkly chandeleir earrings, a couple of rhinestone hair pins (small, nothing much..I may get something more) for my hair, not wearing a necklace, and have two pretty bracelets. I am wearing a 90" simple veil (comes a couple inches past the train) and some white touch ups 3 1/2 heels, and hair up. lol....my wedding is in 3 months, so I am coming down to the wire.
I am so excited to have found this post. I am also a Jenna bride and I fell in love with my dress the second I put it on. When I first saw myself in the mirror I cried because I just knew it was the one. Such a beautiful flattering dress, so I can say to all the rest of you ladies...Nice Choice, you will look stunning on your weddings no doubt! KT3221 my mother actually thought the dress was too full when I put it on however, I am going to be wearing a crinoline under mine. I want to dye it red for a little added wow factor :) I like those little sneak peaks. I am sure that once you see your dress again, all the second thoughts will go away!!

My wedding is in 2 months!!! and I dont have my accessories yet :( This is my second dress so I bought all the accessories to match my first and they dont go with this one so im on the hunt for some new ones!!!!.
The first is a blurry cell phone pic from my first fitting, I had a halter strap added so it wouldnt shimmy down throughout the night and show too much cleavage.
And the 2nd is a pic from my final fitting, it's still wrinkly and needs to be steamed, and the flash killed most the detail! i ordered it in ivory, sz 10

@x0stephanie: Very pretty....although as far as it comiing down, the boning and the corset in it make that impossible on me. Then again, I do have small boobies :( lol. I'm not even wearing a bra, that is how secure it is. anyways, congratulations!
I walked into a bridal shop yesterday and completely fell in love with the dress.
I am going to purchase it next week, I told myself I would let the weekend past to see if I still loved the dress enough to buy it, and after looking at the pictures of you brides on here, simply reminds me how beautiful the gown is.
However what is a "hoop" where do I get one?
it makes it poofier than it already is (the actual sottero model is prob wearing on based on the pic)..I am not, it has enough poof for me as is. But if you want even poofier than thats what ya do I guess.
@Fab1005: It is a gorgeous dress! A hoop is a skirt with a ring/hoop at the bottom that goes under the dress and holds the skirt out. My bridal salon had them available - some places you can buy them from, others will rent them. I personally liked the hoop with my dress to create a little bit of a fuller skirt, but also to keep the fabric off my legs, which made it much easier to walk in the dress.
Wow I'm so thrilled at all of these wonderful responses and suggestions! I think I'm definitely going for a hoop. I called my bridal salon and they have a few there that I can try on with my dress. It will arrive in early september (sooo soon!) so I will let you ladies know what I decide to wear it with.
I have some of my accessories already- my veil is cathedral length, ivory, with swarovski crystals on the edges to match the details on the dress, and my shoes. My shoes are Margi Diams Strass by Christian Louboutin (the "something blue"). For jewelry, besides my rings, I'm planning to wear simple diamond studs, and a diamond tennis bracelet my fiance gave me. I'm adding an ostrich feather hair piece for the reception, as soon as the veil comes off :)

Thank goodness for this thread! I tried on the Jenna dress and thought that it was THE one! I didn't want to take it off... I didn't have a camera on me & me & my mom tried to burn the way it looked into our brains... when I came home I looked it up online and thought -- HEY that is so not what i tried on.
You girls all look beautiful in the dress! That is totally the dress I remember falling in love with. I was worried that I would order it and it would somehow show up like the one on the website.

To the ladies who have posted photos in their Jenna's, what color are your dresses? I'm trying to decide between ivory and diamond white.
mine is diamond white..ivory would not look good on my skin tone.
Mine is also diamond white. I am quite pale, so the ivory would not have been as nice on me.
@dance: I'm the opposite.. tan, but feel I have too much yellow tin in my skin already so ivory looks bad on me as well.
@greenek2: Yep, we are definitely opposite! I have skin like a red head...so pale and lots of freckles (especially when I have been out in the sun) with more of a pink undertone than a brown one. I feel like diamond white looks good on most skin colors, and that only a few skin colors can successfully wear the ivory. At least that is my experience...
I am so happy to see other brides in this dress! You all look so lovely in it! It definitely wasn't the dress I was expecting to get, but it was really flattering and for some reason it brought out the sassiness in me. I love it!
I ordered mine in Ivory (shown) at the end June. I ended up purchasing the veil I tried on with the dress, but I don't think I want it anymore. I was wearing a hoop slip that flared at the bottom, but it didn't seem to make too much of a difference.
Who is the designer of your bridesmaids dresses? They are really very pretty.
@plantains: thanks they are eggplant Bari Jay dresses..and were pretty affordable at $150 inclusive of tax. :)
I really recommend a three-flounced mermaid petticoat with the Jenna. Along with Madison, it is one of our best sellers and the petticoat really gives it some "oomph!" Just know that it will never completely press flat because the bordeaux taffeta has metal in it so the skirt is flouncy. If you want a dress that is pressed/steamed crisp, the Jenna doesn't really do that...there is a natural wrinkling to the fabric. You ladies all look incredible! LOVE the Jenna!

I am such a huge fan of this dress.. I probably visited atleast 5 different dress shops and tried on atleast 10 per store. Right when I thought I had found the right dress, I decided to visit a different shop that carried Maggies. They had Jenna displayed right as you walk in the door & I immediately fell in love & was immediately like, "THATS THE DRESS!!" Not only was Jenna twice as beautiful as the dress I thought I loved, but it was also HALF the price. :) These pictures were taken of me in Jenna once my dress arrived to the store. Believe it or not, this is ivory.. It looks much more in white, even in person! I didn't want a "yellow" dress and the store owner promised me that the "ivory" in this style was not even close to most ivorys on the market. :) -Just thought I might mention that. -I am also NOT wearing a hoop in the pictures.
@kaitiepuff: looks great..no petticoat or whatever for me either. I just took it in to get the alterations done and the bustle she is doing looks great..it basically looks like the dress just shorter, so it does not take away from the beauty of the dress. can't wait

@greenek2: Ohh awesome!! You'll have to post pics of the bustle!! My wedding is in less than three months and I am seriously so behind on everything. I haven't even ensured a venue OR found my bridesmaid dress. Im dead serious. Lord help me.. :)
