Im posting my inspiration bouquet!  Were doing a peacock/mardi gras wedding and our venue is called the new orleans room.  Even though we live in the north, New Orleans is my inspiration for our wedding.  I go to Mardi Gras every year (had a great time last week btw!) and I thought it was only fitting that my bouquet is made of Magnolias-the state flower of Louisiana.  Will also be incorporating peacock feathers in it. Hi pokergirl!! I love this idea. We're from Mississippi and this is a dream for most Mississippi brides. However, do you know that once you touch a blossom the petals turn brown? its horrible :( Let me know if you find a way to make it work!

magnolias bruise EXTREMELY easily... like if you look at it funny, they'll turn brown lol.

it's a shame though since they're so lovely - have you considered looking for real touch ones?

That inspiration bouquet is actually Gardenias, which also bruise very easily, but are a different plant from Magnolias.

@elliestan: lol, the only magnolia I'm uber familiar with is the tree!!!!

I second getting the real touch or velvet/soft-touch flowers.  From what little I know (and I know VERY little) they aren't the stoutest/toughest of plants....

@pokergirl84: Those are actually Gardenias - Magnolia is a flowering tree.  In SF the flower stands have gardenia boutonnieres for $1 and I would get one each time I passed by one.   You will have to be very very very very careful with gardenias, they tend to bruise and wilt with the slightest touch.
